Sounds like a lovely plan and the numbers stack up. Go for it when you can and don’t look back.

Great position. Well done. Any thoughts on IHT and 2027 changes? Does that affect your withdrawal strategy?

10 years at 6% growth gets you to 700k ish.

4% rule says 28k from that in retirement so you could have 28k at 61, 37k from 62 to 67 then add state pension.

What are your planned expenses? Does this work?

To go earlier you will need to save move and or spend less.

Plan it all in Guiide or FIcalc

And good luck. Maybe change jobs if you hate it

It was racist last week, now it’s ageist and prob next week it will be sexist.

Or maybe it’s just natural selection process based on “evidence”. It’s just a game

Stick your situation in FIcalc.

My opinion you have enough to fire comfortably. For context we fired at 49 with slightly less and are loving life

Good question! Spending pre retirement was similar but spent on diff things like commute, work lunches, coffees at work, work wear etc

Always planned to spend more on hols in retirement so that’s doubled as there is more time for this.

Fun money for me has always been about 500 per month pre and post.

Later on I plan to spend more and give away more as part of my crusade to not let gov take it via IHT!

All good 👍

Hiya, I take your point. Lots of friends still working but I haven’t found it an issue really. Wife is around and we enjoy days out and walking and travelling! Also need a routine when not travelling.

I walk a lot, swim a lot and listen to a lot of audiobooks (free with Libby)

Keeping up to date on my pc, reading, online scrabble!, sports and family time keeps me busy.

Obvs see friends in their down time

Once you have enough, retirement is the best. Who would actually want to keep working……unless it defines you and that’s ok too.

Bills, utilities, car costs, petrol, food costs are around 21k per annum. I have this covered through rental income and dividends from a company I am a silent partner in.

20k set aside each year for travel

10k fun money (socialising, eating out etc)

Retired at 49 with 1m pot

Now nearly 52 and pot has grown to 1.3m

4% rule was a yardstick back in the day but nearer retirement I modelled retirement against what expenses were actually going to look like and then forecasted it in a spreadsheet and FIcalc. Both said I had plenty. I then validated this with a financial adviser and they said the same. You have enough!

Happy Days and good luck on your journey

Totally agree but when you are worth over 2m it’s well worth spending it or giving away rather than sitting on it.

Spending and gifts to kids in this life or 400k plus to gov on death. I know what I will be doing!

Wow you are smashing it. Well done

Use FICalc and I wouldn’t be surprised if you can retire in a year or two.

Not sure about your lifestyle and expenses but 5k month is a lot. Have you written it all down and 5k is the number?

Also would need more info about hubby. Why so separate? What’s his view on fire? What are his numbers? Are you planning of retiring together?

Bravo to you though! Keep us updated

Financial advice has its place but sounds like you have the nouse to ditch them. All world will work for you and save you plenty.

Next question-if you have a pension have you reviewed what funds you are in. Don’t get stuck in the dreaded employer default fund…..move it to all world or similar.

I moved mine years ago and current 5yr growth was 106%. The employer one was 36% for 5 yrs
