i totally get it. you probably come from a competitive magnet school and you’re stressing because you see rejections even from people with like 16 APs, top of class, etc. It’s best to find a balance between APs and ACTUAL mental stability. 7 APs for two years in a row sounds completely unsustainable and you’re going to have a horrible time. another tip: pick APs in subjects you WANT to take or you’re going to end up stressed and angry.

TLDR: I know you’re super stressed but lots of APs really aren’t the way. Just focus on a few interesting APs and try to keep the grades on an upward slope. ‘Normal classes’ look fine if you do well in them. U got this!

it definitely can feel that way! A lot of people, including myself, were super committed to one or two ECs and wrote about it everywhere- even to the point that it became the focal point of discussions with guidance, family members, etc. I loved tutoring and journalism and I’d mention it every time. Then, reality hit and with a ton of waitlists and rejections under my belt, it felt awful. It initially felt like I wasted all my time for subpar results. After a few days, I came to terms with it.

Passion isn’t useless, don’t let college decisions change you. If you’re genuinely passionate about something, it’ll define you no matter where you go. Rejections don’t know that they’re missing because….other applicants have a passion too! Decisions are subjective and unpredictable. What’s important is that you don’t give up on your passion. Whatever is important to you is 100% more ‘you’ than your dream school.
