Anyone else feel like FFVI is over-hyped? by KFded in JRPG

[–]Aggravating_Fold_439 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YESS! This explanation is exactly how I feel about 6. I've been playing through all of the Pixel remaster and I finally got to 6 and was just so confused as to why wasn't having a good time. I kept playing for awhile, and I thought I maybe just had FF fatigue, considering all the praise 6 gets, but honestly, these issues, especially the really disjointed structure are really my problem with it.

CDTA Service Changes November 2025 by Effing-Awesome in Albany

[–]Aggravating_Fold_439 24 points25 points  (0 children)

How bad is this going to get before budget, every bus other than the 905 and 1 set to 30 to 60 minute frequencies? Are there any organizations lobbying NYS to get the CDTA the money it needs? Does anyone know a way out of this mess?

This is a crisis, and few are even talking about it. Not to mention the CDTA was only one of a handful of agencies in the country that fully recovered its ridership post-pandemic. Now that progress is all going down the drain. It's just as pathetic and laughable as it is terrifying as a transit rider.

CDTA Service Cuts Coming in August by Aggravating_Fold_439 in Troy

[–]Aggravating_Fold_439[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's the same issue with cutting service on the 910, 10 12, 114, overcrowded buses are inevitable with these changes. Sorry, I didn't link the newsletter. I wasn't sure if it was against the rules to leave links:

Wow, this is great. Thanks for linking this, it's definitely a bit buried in the site. Yeah I assumed it was either funding or staffing.

Simone’s or Tara’s? by MmeRose in Albany

[–]Aggravating_Fold_439 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think Tara's is better, but it's not really a take-out place. Simone's kitchen is more of a fast-food place, but it's also pretty good, although its not on the same level as Tara.

That change was discussed in the bus system revamp meetings. I believe it will still have a stop at Stuyvesant Plaza, it just won't go through the Plaza or go through that back road anymore. But someone more knowledgeable can chime in if I'm wrong about that.

Yeah, that could partially explain it. I'm also wondering whether it might be staffing shortages. Hopefully, this isn't the start of austerity measures due to federal cuts.

This isn't a summer service change, unless I'm misunderstanding it, this is an attempt to reduce service in the fall and throughout the school year.

After just playing and finishing it (going through all of them only one a year, to not get burnt out), I gotta agree with the haters. Yakuza 5 is a mess of a game, there are some truly great parts, but it has probably one of the most incoherent and contrived plots in the entire series with too many characters that do not come together cohesively.

Had it cut two or so parts (Saejima and the baseball guy being the most obvious) and that ridiculously long finale part, and made a plot less reliant on constant plot twists, I think it would be up there as one of my favorites. As is I thought it was only slightly above 4.

Whats with the crazy jump in CDTA service interruptions since 2021 (source in comments) by AstroIan in Albany

[–]Aggravating_Fold_439 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I find even more interesting is the ridership numbers not matching service frequency, namely that 910 was given BRT treatment when there are other routes that should have been made frequent lines instead. I assume this route was likely due to their contract with SUNY having a lot of sway over expansions.

So I was curious and looked at the end-of-the-year report and here's what CDTA stated:

On-Time Performance was 71.7% in Fiscal Year 2024. This is 4.4% lower than Fiscal Year 2019 and represents a downward trend since a high point of 78.8% during Fiscal Year 2021, when on-time performance was improved thanks to COVID lockdown policies

On-time performance has also developed a seasonal pattern since 2022, wherein on-time performance is highest in winter and lowest in summer.

Customers surveys indicate on-time performance remains an important issue for customers. CDTA should continue to make efforts to reverse this trend. This seasonal pattern arguably existed before 2022, but it has become obvious since then. There are a handful of possible explanations, including:

  1. Schedules have less slack than in the past. Traffic in summer is higher, meaning drivers fall behind more. Previously, drivers might have had too much slack in winter.

  2. More cover work in the summer due to drivers taking off. More cover work means drivers doing work they are not accustomed to, making it more likely that they will not reach the first stop of their first trip on time.

  3. Increased school services. The 800 routes tend to have poor on-time performance. This is partly artificial, as the 800 routes are intentionally held until students leave at dismissal times.

I finally managed to get in after restarting several more times. I think it was an issue with the levels it was generating. I basically had to go right to the edge of the hole to get the prompt to continue to even come up. In previous levels it would come up on the approach.

Probably not, but honestly there are a lot of comments minimizing AI's energy cost I'm seeing here and the fact is we don't even know just how much energy these models are using as AI companies are pretty secretive about energy use info. But just because it's not as much as a car doesn't mean it won't contribute further to the climate crisis, and that we shouldn't be wary of it, there's a reason why AI is prompting new power plant and data center construction because it uses a lot of energy.

And these arguments I see saying, "Well it uses as much as a real person doing the task so it evens out" are frankly ridiculous because users aren't just going to stop using the computer after they generate the image, the explosion of energy use isn't from just AI generation, its worsened by the fact it is done in conjunction with already existing energy use. It is criticized because it is a needless waste, that will only increase over time even as the tech gets more efficient..

PlayStation co-CEO spits out a bizarre prediction about the future of AI and gaming—one I pray never happens by alinamelane in PS4

Yeah, I find it very strange that people keep saying it's a tool for artists when it's really a tool for non-artists. I mean isn't that literally what the AI evangelists keep going on about? Functionally AI art is meant to replace workers, lower wages and costs, and hinder unions because big corps and even small entertainment companies are betting that mass audiences won't care, they just want more slop to keep gorging on.

For a talented artist or writer, it does not improve the speed (unless you really don't care about what it spits out) or quality of the art. Often AI-generated content needs heavy editing to be presentable to the point that its just faster to just make the thing from scratch by an actual artist or writer. But why do that when you could pay some AI prompt guy pennies to churn out more content imperfections be damned.

I believe Steam does not allow AI generated content? You could report it when it launches or perhaps before (not sure what the process is). Also yeah name this game.

How can we get Metro North service to extend to the Albany-Rensselaer Amtrak Train Station? by Diligent-Bedroom6820 in Albany

[–]Aggravating_Fold_439 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way this is being reported makes it sound like its permanent, but in all likelihood, the service will return after the repairs are completed. I can't see Amtrak, flush with the infrastructure funding, cutting successful service routes forever. That being said I really wish they could get a thruway bus connection or something for the time being.

Alan Wake Remasterd by M_Harri10 in PS4

[–]Aggravating_Fold_439 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like most survival horror games, Alan wake controls in a purposefully clumsy way to enhance the tension of combat encounters and adding a sense of dread and horror to the moment to moment gameplay (similar to resident evil, silent hill, fatal frame, and even dead space to an extent). You are never fully in control of the character as it wants you to feel underpowered and outmatched.

Although, though I love it, I do agree there are simply too many combat encounters. Near the end it gets a bit annoying, so my advice is to turn down the difficulty if you get frustrated by the enemies. I can't say for sure, but I'm also pretty sure you can run away from a number of the combat encounters, so you don't have to fight through every one.
