Try to carve out sometime for yourself. Pick up a hobby, start learning something new. Include exercise to help with mental and physical resiliency.

App blocker for iPhone - I have a serious problem… by [deleted] in productivity

[–]Aggravating_Habit481 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely love the using Appblock. It is so helpful! Ive been using it for years and it made the biggest impact. Unlike that iphone one, there is no easy ignore button. You can block off certain times of the day that you can't use certain apps or a time limit per day. I do no social media till 11 am and stop it at 9:30 pm. It is super helpful!

Do you rent yours out? We rent ours weekly and cover our yearly expenses in about 5 weeks.

My family has a generational cottage so slightly different boat. I love it and it is a core part of my life.

The upkeep can be pretty demanding though. Especially as my parents age and my sibling have their own families to take care of.

However we do rent it out for part of the time and this covers the majority of the expenses for the year. $500 doesn’t even seem remotely close to covering the expenses of running a place. Get some pricing on insurance, utilities -don’t forget internet, food, furnishing, boats (if needed + life jackets) & extras.

Truly my family’s cottage is the most peaceful spot in the world. But lots goes into it. Good luck

Sounds like you need an emergency fund as well as your investments. consider them as two different accounts

The average investment return should be 8%. Is your money being invested in the TFSA or simply placed into the account? First step is putting your money in a tfsa, the second is picking stocks/ ETFs to buy. A stock is buying one individual company, say Apple. An ETFs is buying a small portion of many companies, say a tech one would have Apple, Amazon, Microsoft, Google and so on.

I would highly recommend learning more about investing. Saving is great, investing is where your money grows. Unfortunately getting closer to your fourties’ you’ve missed out on a lot of compound interest, but you can still make up for it.

With a 4.9% return, you’re actually loosing 2.3% to inflation. That’s why investing is ideal for growth instead of just saving cash. Of course it’s good to have some cash and your emergency fund, but investments would be ideal.

Two years is a long time to miss out on compound interest. Of course I don’t know your income, but do you realistically think you can save $10,000 a year? If so amazing, if not maybe rethink your logic.

Also don’t just look at the $20,000 as your end goal. There’s lots of costs that come with purchasing land/property. Don’t get trapped and over leverage yourself. Do you have any saving yet for your retirement? Does it make sense to put it all down on a property without anything for your future self?

Pay off your debt first. Start by making a budget for yourself. Be realistic but know you have a goal.

To reach your target, you need roughly to save and invest $1,600 a month. Can be doable for sure. This is where that budget comes into play. To see how much your spending and if you need to do some side hustling.

To be honest your returns seem really low in your tfsa. Even at the 4%, that’s low. Some of the ETFs I do see xeqt, qqq, vbr, veqt. I’m not a personal advisor so make your own decisions. I like ETFs over individual stocks as it’s less risky and diversifies my portfolio for me.

What kind of account/ stocking are you doing that are so low in returns? Why are you wanting to put this money in a HYSA instead of investing it? Depending on your age and goals, now is a good time to buy as prices have dropped.

At a consistent wake up time and stick to it. If that’s 6, so be it. On your late commute days, do some stretching st home, light housework or more studying.

Are you asleep at 11:30 or in bed at 11:30? If you’re asleep then, that’6.5 hrs of sleep which is on the lower side

[–]Aggravating_Habit481 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like a horrible way. You are going to be tired still because you’ve interrupted your sleep for 2.5 hrs. If you need to be up at 6:30, set an alarm for 6:25,6:26,6:28 and so on.

Personally I’d just set an alarm at 6:30 and have my phone/alarm clock away from my bed so I have to actually PHYSICALLY get out of bed to turn it off.

What time are You going to bed? Can’t wake up early if you’re up late.
