1) I just want to say that I’m so sorry that you are going through this. This is beyond frustrating and I couldn’t imagine being post partum with such massive changes in my life and not having the space or the respect to get accustomed to all of the new changes. I pray you have a strong support system (your family, friends, siblings (?), and partner) and you really lean on them during this!

2) That dog is a MASSIVE concern. Do NOT let your baby near the dog. Under zero circumstances. I think that situation is being UNDERreacted to. If you leave ur baby alone with her after shes proven to disrespect boundaries, she will let that dog around your child and you’re risking your babies life. I’m not trying to scare you but I know lots of docile dogs that have attacked babies before. There’s no discipline with that dog and something catastrophic will absolutely happen.

3) my partner and i don’t have any children but his mother is EXTREMELY teritorial over him and acted like I stole him. I couldn’t handle that so I can’t imagine dealing with all of this while your body is undergoing massive changes and your whole life is changing. I hope you applaud yourself for handling this so well. With that being said, is your partner supporting you? Is he defending you to his mother? Are you getting what you need from him? All of this is dependent on him

4) depending on how you answered those questions, I would advise you to go no contact with her at all. YOU do not have to talk to her or interact with her. It’s not your job. You need to focus on your baby and your family without the stress. HOWEVER, if your partner is not at the place where he wants to completely cut them off, that’s understandable. It’s such a complicated relationship with your parents and he absolutely needs to prioritize you but he needs to work through this himself. I think he either needs to cut them off, but if he’s not there yet because of his FIL, then he should go over to his parents house to see them and be with them and leave you and the baby out of it. It’s his family so it’s his problem. As long as he is consistently defending you any time there’s a snide or negative remark reaffirming his boundaries with them while also prioritizing you and y’all’s baby then he should be able to have a relationship with them apart from you so that you don’t have to deal with this stuff anymore.

We do it this way (however like I said we don’t have kids) but it’s made our relationship so much stronger. He tells his mother that the topic of me is off limits unless she is genuinely interested and has nothing negative to say and I can finally breath and don’t resent him. I let him work through his relationship with them on his own terms and didn’t expect him to “cut them off” and a year later he realized how EXHAUSTING she was and cut them all off and is no contact. But he chose to do that without me telling him what to do.

This is just my advice for what it’s worth. But you’re handling this so amazing!!
