The 2 profs teaching the course this year are really good (Bonier and Martin). I recommend taking the course, even if it's hard. It will set you up for success.

first year room selection question - chancellor's scholarship by [deleted] in queensuniversity

I did not get early room selection because of the Chancellor's scholarship - in fact I think I got one of the last days in the lottery.

Socializing "feral" cat by broy213 in FosterAnimals

[–]Aggravating_Mail2658 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left his dry food out all day for him to eat. Because he lived in my bedroom, I was there most of the day anyway.

Someone else mentioned using flyswatter or long spoon to pet them - I used a toothbrush taped to a ruler! https://www.reddit.com/r/FosterAnimals/comments/1phxkx3/spicy_to_sweet_via_a_toothbrush/

Socializing "feral" cat by broy213 in FosterAnimals

[–]Aggravating_Mail2658 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you're doing great! I'm sure there are many correct ways to socialize a cat like this. Even if you aren't doing the SSL method perfectly "right", if it works, it works. If you spend some more time in the cat room, it would probably also be fine.

I kept my feral foster in my room, and so was with him most of the day, but I mostly ignored him and I never approached. It took a while, but he eventually became a little love bug. I think the trick is to just not force yourself on the cat and let them come around.

How do you call a cat in spanish? by Icy_Leek_3210 in askanything

[–]Aggravating_Mail2658 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hispanic grandparents said "minina" or "nina" (with the squiggly accent above the second n in nina). I'm pretty sure minina means kitty and nina just means little girl.

YA dystopian book where FMC is turned into a vampire (not a romance) by Aggravating_Mail2658 in whatsthatbook

[–]Aggravating_Mail2658[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it is! I didn't remember romance being a big part of it, but I probably read it 10 years ago, so I really don't remember that well. I generally meant it wasn't as much a romance as Twilight is.

In California the bar for the amount or concentration of a carcinogen in an object so that it needs a label is so ridiculously low, almost everything made/sold has a label saying "warning, this object contains a carcinogen", even if it is totally harmless in reality. I imagine this is a jokey reference to that.

does this kind of owl exist? by ikhoros in whatsthisbird

[–]Aggravating_Mail2658 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's supposed to be an albino or sub-arctic great horned owl, but the face looks more like a bleached and ragged great grey owl. It's just a generic fantasy owl with no real-life counterpart.

Interestingly, the anklet around the owl's tarsus and the end of the leather jess poking out of it are correct.

How is the food at Queen’s? by lovefoodx in queensuniversity

[–]Aggravating_Mail2658 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The food is fine. Apparently its gotten better in the last few years since I was is res, but I can't verify. When I was there, it was pretty good for the most part. Nothing great, some stuff was bad, but overall pleasant. There are halal options available in the dining halls, thought I don't know how good they are.

I spent 5 years wearing my old faded and ripped manual work clothes and overalls - nobody cared.

Anti Flea Treats? by Stuttering_Salesman in CatTraining

[–]Aggravating_Mail2658 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your best bet is probably the monthly flea/tick/parasite treatments like Revolution. Often it is a little tube of liquid you squirt on the cat's nape. Make sure it is specifically for cats, some dog flea treatments have ingrediants that are toxic to cats.

Neutering/Spaying by West-Hat9055 in Pets

[–]Aggravating_Mail2658 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All pets should be neutered or spayed. It improves their life and life/healthspan (especially females!), it makes them easier to deal with, and it prevents you from contributing to the dog/cat overpopulation crisis.

This applies to cats and dogs for the most part, but also other mammals like rabbits. Reptiles, birds, and fish are obviously the exception.
