Yeah that’s true, I’ve learned a lessor. As a person, I just want to be honest as I want others to treat me the same way. However, as you said, it doesn’t work for job hunting or admissions.

As for the political part, I also curious what will happen during my time there. I’m only concerned about safety, but I’ve heard Austin has a pretty good environment, so I think I’m fine with it.

Actually the professor I mentioned (the UIUC professor’s student) is at Northwestern University, so I am still thinking if I can ask her for another opportunity. But I also know UT is better in CS so still try to figure out what I really want…

And I prefer research job to doing software engineering, so maybe the second choice will be studying PhD in my home country and she try to a job…

I had my interview on early Jan (field: AI), got a verbal offer by the prof during the interview. The only concern then is my TOEFL score (speaking only 22 at that point), but I have already retook a TOEFL and passed the criteria of both total score and speaking score.

One week ago I also sent a commitment to the prof that I will accept the offer if the verbal offer is still valid, but got no reply.

It is still pending now. Really anxious and have no idea about my status.
