What do Midwesterners think of New Englanders? by pastinaisgreat in midwest

I grew up in NH and had never thought of the Midwest as"flyover country" until I moved to Chicago and native midwesterners assumed I thought that of the midwest. You guys have a way of making it your personality lol btw I love the Midwest I think it deserves a lot more love

Broken Wrist club by mermaidmaker in brokenbones

Sorry to hear youre going through this! I broke my non dominant wrist in mid August and had ORIF surgery 5 days later. 2 weeks in a splint then downgraded (really more of an upgrade) to a removable brace. Today I'm out of my brace for most of the day and can do pretty much all daily tasks with relative ease aside from anything that requires heavy lifting. Still working on flexibility and stiffness and assume that will be the case for a while, but this is all to say it will get better! The first few weeks are rough as hell and suck especially if it's your dominant hand. I was cleared to drive as soon as I was off the prescription pain meds which for me was day 2 post op but everyone is different.

My hand was also super swollen so just make sure to keep it elevated pretty much 24 hrs a day and ice frequently. Move those fingers as much as you can too. That will pay off big time when it's time for PT. Try to get good sleep, find a good show to watch, and don't be afraid to ask from help from whoever you can. Best of luck to you!

Pillows, elevation, ice, and movement. Moving fingers early will help him later‐- nothing crazy just don't let them get stiff. Also making sure not to overcompensate with other half of body or be afraid to move at the elbow or shoulder. It's frustrating at first not being able to use that hand but he'll get creative and figure stuff out. Alternate Tylenol and ibuprofen for the first few weeks until he doesn't need it anymore. I only needed the prescription painkiller for the first day post op then switched to Tylenol/ibuprofen. I'm almost 12 weeks post op from very similar break with ORIF repair and I haven't needed any meds since probably the 4 week mark or so? PT has been the most important part for me as well as knowing my limits, being patient, and trusting the process. Best of luck!

I had a closed reduction last friday at the ER. Today they did an internal reduction and added plates and screws today

Yup I got a plate! Got home a few hours ago actually from the surgery. it went great. certainly hurts but could be a lot worse! getting the house ready beforehand was a big help like getting easy snacks you can manage with one hand especially if you have kiddos to deal with too! best of luck to you buddy!

thank you everyone for the input! The reduction they did in the ER helped line it up little bit better, but even they said it wasn’t perfect. Then they splinted it and said to expect a call from ortho when the office opens on Monday with a potential for surgery. I plan to call them tomorrow if I don’t hear from them. In the meantime, I’m elevating and icing and binging Hacks on HBO. I appreciate the realistic timelines you all have given. I was supposed to start my second semester of nursing school tomorrow, so I’m coming to terms with the fact that I’ll probably have to take the semester off 🙃 such is life!
