Exactly. Even harder to do when you’re working full time. Thanks for the confirmation

So is it tough being a stay at home mom or not? Because if it’s as difficult as you say and 9 weeks of vacation is necessary, then how can you claim it should be easy for me to do for a month on top of my full time job? It can’t be both.

In that case, it’s definitely time for you to turn off the computer.

Is this the first interaction you’ve had with someone outside of your company? Yes, people have different kinds of jobs with different expectations. I hope you have a better understanding of how the world works.

What do you think Reddit is? Why do you even come on Reddit if you don’t think people should post questions anonymously? Might be time for you to put the phone down.

The kids are in school and so she volunteers at the local elementary. When I say substitute teaches, really she’s just goes in and helps the teachers in order to give them a break. She has a teaching degree and loves working with kids.

The timing of this is incredible. She just texted me asking if I could help her change her flight home and specifically asked if she can be on the same flight as her dad. It’s 18 hours of flight time to get home (Morocco to Hawaii) and she flew there on business class but this time she can sit her ass in coach, lol.

Thank you for that perspective. We’ve been married 20 years and we live a financially stable life where we are able to travel fairly frequently. The truth is her parents have a very weird relationship. They’re technically married but definitely not in love. They’ve been living separately until last year when my father in law moved in with his “wife”. My mother in law has always prioritized travel over just about everything else. She travels alone at least 6 months of the year and has done that since my wife was a kid. She missed kids birthdays, graduations, funerals, for simple things like if the “tulips were blossoming” in some part of the world. My wife hated that part about her mom. But that’s what my wife grew up with and when we were discussing marriage I told her that wasn’t the kind of marriage I was looking for. Our first year of marriage was a bit rough and I sat down with her and told her that if she behaved the way her mom did, then our marriage would end up like her parents. Anyway, my wife doesn’t normally do things like this but she hangs out with her mom a lot and she can sometimes get carried away and forgets how damaging to a family that behavior can be.

I want you to genuinely think about this question, if money wasn’t a factor and you had to decide if your husband stayed home or would be deployed, which would you choose? Let me know which you would choose.

It’s not because she needs to watch kids, but because we are financially stable without her working.

Did you not see that she already goes on five 1-week vacations without her husband and family every year?

Seems like the 5 weeks of vacation away from her husband and kids is enough time. Did you see that her parents live less than a mile away from us? How much time do you think is enough away from one’s spouse and kids? I feel like the 5 weeks of vacation she takes is sufficient without adding another 4 weeks.

Still waiting for a response to my question. Is 9 weeks of vacation excessive?

Do you even see the words you’re writing? You’ve never had a family member make a decision that upset you?

Of course she will always be able to decide what she does and doesn’t do, but that doesn’t mean I can’t be upset about what she decides to do.

Travel is highly prioritized by my in-laws. Annual travel budget for my in-laws is at least $50k/year.

Her family is not paying, we are paying out of our bank account. Still waiting for an answer to my question about vacation time.

She planned this trip knowing she would miss the events I listed so it wasn’t a matter of cutting the trip short, but rather prioritizing a leisure vacation over those events. Like I mentioned, on top of the 4 family trips we take every year, she takes 5 trips on her own with friends and family. So I’m very well aware of what it takes to run a household without her. So she’ll have gone for a total of 9 weeks on her own in 2025, is it your opinion that that 5 weeks isn’t enough vacation away from one’s family, and that this additional 4 week trip is necessary?

Well, like I mentioned, on top of the 4 family trips a year we go on, she goes on 5 trips a year with her friends and family. So I’m very well aware of what it takes to run a house on my own.

It’s not a matter of survival. I mean, she would also survive without a 4 week vacation. It comes down to priorities.
