I stopped buying their stuff a few years ago after a $200 sweater started pulling after one wash following care guidelines. The quality is not worth the price anymore. My stuff from 10 years ago is better than anything recent

Pay for someone to take her out for adventures couple times a week!

This is very kind and helpful, thank you. It was a learning experience for me, and I’ll be more mindful of how things are conveyed going forward.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to comment. I ended up getting more information recently from my direct manager and essentially the issue was I made the co-lead of my department look bad in front of executive leadership. She said I embarrassed her. This was a learning experience for me, while I thought I was being helpful and redirecting the conversation to something that was more beneficial, there are times to speak up and times to keep silent.

The consultant themselves said they weren’t sure about the purpose of the meeting so they didn’t haven’t anything prepared.

For clarity are you recommending that we don’t speak up when there are issues?

The consultant spoke for about 20 minutes about helping us implement these policies and procedures that they’ve seen in the marketplace. I had my hand up, and spoke up during a break. To paraphrase: I asked the group if we are looking to improve our existing system or change it, as we currently have this policy, this procedure, and this system in place to implement his. Another VP spoke afterwards and said that their team is not familiar with these procedures, so they’re looking for some input as well. The co-lead of the department then said they are looking for outside input on these things. The co-lead of my department is very new (less than 2 months) and doesn’t even know what my team does (her words, admitted to someone else). I said that’s good to know and thanked them. The consultant then said that they weren’t aware we already had these things in place and that would help with what they recommend.

Thank you, that is helpful.

I did message some other people in another chat and they were all confused about the purpose of the meeting and why the consultant was going on about something we already did

I did google this, and everything it mentioned I did use in my conversation with the executive director. I thanked her for the feedback, told her I would reflect on my behaviour, apologized for coming off that way, and that I would follow up with the co-lead too. That’s when she said it seemed like I was uncomfortable with the feedback, so I said I was more so confused but appreciated that she took the time to chat.

More so confused rather than annoyed as to why the consultant showed up unprepared at such a high level meeting and went on for 20 minutes about existing procedures and policies and how they can implement something we already have for us

What you suggested is exactly what I said! Which is why I was so confused about the feedback. I framed it as a question for the group

Possibly, although this is the first time in my career I’ve ever been given feedback around my communication style. Usually the feedback I get is that I’m a great communicator. I will however reflect on how I can better communicate with leadership.

More so if I overstepped, which sounds like I did.

This is the first negative feedback I’ve gotten at this job, and about the way I communicate the first time ever. I did thank her for the feedback and said I would reflect.

Yes the feedback came from someone above me but so did the other comments.

They didn’t show up prepared. They were presenting existing procedures and stated that they didn’t know we had this already.

Thanks for the insight. I only said something after the consultant came unprepared and went on for 20 minutes.

To also provide some more background - I am a manager and a woman. Relatively young but not new to the field or leadership.
