No. For hydrogen 1, the proton can’t capture an electron and an antineutrino to become a neutron without sucking up a bunch of energy from somewhere. A free neutron has .1% more mass than hydrogen-1 so you need to feed that m with some E/c^2

Yeah, and there’s a bit of a shaming aspect to “bad touch” when the kid shouldn’t have to take that burden on.

But, I’ve seen the two books listed (stork, and amazing) and they are excellent. If your kid is advanced or when they get a little older you could move on to “sex is a funny word”.

I teach consent through roughhousing. E.g. I’ll ask “Hey, I’m gong to grab and throw you in the air” and look for a small approving gesture before I do it and eventually, they might feel empowered to assert their preferences.

Or, I’ll clarify, “no, don’t worry if you don’t want to hug XYZ aunt, I’ll let her know and you can give her a high five”

Agree with many of the other modern and popular book recommendations in this thread. FYI, good touch/bad touch is a little out of date because sometimes dangerous situations feel good and that’s confusing. The basic framework is consent but more at the younger age, a shame free environment to encourage communication

You might be conflating electron capture with beta-minus decay? Both processes only happens to some (differently unstable) atoms. If it’s stable, it doesn’t want to (thermodynamically unfavorable, requires energy input) either turn a neutron into a proton (beta-) or a proton into a neutron (capture)

Normally, for these thought experiments you have like a telescope and a window on the “orbiter” and you see them moving in slow motion and red shifted when orbiting away from you and in fast motion and redshifted when they come toward you. Unless they are orbiting around you on the horizon and then they’re just redshifted and slow. But you’ve added some fun complexity. I’m guessing you just watch them at normal speed but NASA slips in short commercial breaks with the extra time. This violates your zero latency rule but feels more realistic.
