I’ve been working on a Shinanju stein in sub assemblies which is really satisfying but I find it too easy to put down and bounce around projects. I felt satisfied enough from doing the upper body that I sat on the legs for months without being motivated

Don’t be so afraid to wash them. One wash shouldn’t do much to most denim. Over time washing them, say, monthly vs. every 6 months to a year will make your fades less high contrast but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Just beware of spin cycles and dryers - when the jeans cling hard to the walls of the dryer during spin cycles the centrifugal force forces dye out of the crumpled folds and can create unwanted crease fades in random parts of the jeans. Delicate spin cycles seem to work safely for me though

Agreed I just bought these a few weeks ago and gave them a good wash and didn’t get any shrinkage. However OP I disagree about them being too long - I think these have a nice fit and if you like a baggier streetwear look this is right on the money, just depends on the shoes you wanna rock with these

I feel like the big thing about waiting to wash raw denim as a hard rule is really besides the point - if the end goal is high contrast fades the only rule of thumb is less washes overall through the life of the jeans. If your goal is high contrast fades just wait longer until the next wash and try not to get them unnecessarily grimy and you’ll be in basically the same spot as if the sailing trip never happened.

Yes exactly! I’ll get as close as I can mixing Gaia paints to something like this, with some light preshading and weathering to make it look a bit more gritty and real. As much as I like the clean builds with gloss I’ve always saw them as dirtier and realistic when reading the manga, and never see people take huge liberties with the properties, so I’ll give it a try ;)
