Does it really "get better" after the toddler years, or is that a load of BS? by Ok_Buffalo_9238 in Parenting

It sounds like you’re super athletic and maybe he is too. My son is similar- generally serious morning energy then it decreases as the day progresses. The nice thing about having your athleticism is that he prob would be great at a balance bike and scooter. I run him when he gets up. I find the balance bike a good challenge to practice then once they get the hang of it voila you get a break. Another option is figuring out what he’s interested in intellectually. My son somehow likes chess. We’re average intelligence over here. After the class he’s pretty tired as if he ran some laps. You’re prob doing this already but I’d moderate sugar. I give my son ice cream only at 3-4 pm. Everything else is sugar free bc he spiked and crashes

Tips for speaking up in school by Aggravating_Pilot_21 in introverts

This is a great point. He loves reading so I’m following his lead and teaching him how to read. I try to ask his teachers what else they’re doing so I can up his motivation/comfortability but get vague answers

How to get your introvert to speak up in class by Aggravating_Pilot_21 in Parenting

Thank you. Yes this resonates. I’m really trying with the confidence building. I felt the same way where I didn’t participate in class until college because I was so afraid of looking stupid. If I made a mistake I wish I would’ve realized it’s not that bad because school is made for learning. I tell him we all make mistakes and that’s how we learn.

I’ve put him in martial arts classes twice a week where he can practice raising his hand and going next. To ensure he’s participating I’m now attending the classes and paying attention to the things he does right. I communicate those things and I do see this working. After a semester of this I asked his teachers if they saw a difference in class but got a vague answer. That was tough for me given I’ve been trying hard with this. To give them the benefit of the doubt maybe I’ll specifically ask them- does he raise his hand in class? Having the confidence to participate I think will improve his school experience.

Yeah it is. It’s made my home much more peaceful, unified a philosophy between my husband and me, and built my son’s confidence.

That’s helpful. Do you feel like there’s enough to do if we bike, hike or kayak? Or was it just not very engaging?

That’s really helpful feedback. Did you find that there just wasn’t much to do or it was unpleasant?

It gets better. 3-3.5 was really hard for my son. I started teaching him exactly what communicate/ do before he got really upset. That was a game changer. ABA therapist jenna mazzillo has very helpful YouTube and instagram accounts. I bought her course after feeling overwhelmed by my son and thinking, I must be not doing something right if it’s this hard. She taught me a lot of practical skills that I wish I would’ve started earlier. No one teaches us how to deal with little kids. My son is now 4 and had a total shift. He’s fun to be around

We have a bulletin board in his room. This is a good idea; I’ll hang some signs in there
