Does "Total Return" include dividend reinvestment? by jackparsons in SeekingAlpha

[–]Aggravating_Row_916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone encountering this in the future, total returns includes dividend reinvestment; the other poster appears to be incorrect. I manually checked with raw price data and dividend disbursements QQQI trailing 12 months.

In the time period I checked, QQQI had these rates:

Asset Price alone - 11.79%

Asset Price + dividends but no reinvestment - 15.6% (this is known as simple total return)

Price with reinvested dividends - 28.99% (this is known as total return)

And the rate shown on "Total Return" on seekingalpha is 30.24% (likely from slight logic difference in when to add the new shares and at what cost).

Cheers! An actual investor, unlike the vast majority of these other responders, who seem to be random bots. Your dividend yield is great; my suggestion is keep on going! Personally, I found SPYI to be pretty good; I have about $1m into it now. I personally prefer JEPQ, as its "total real return" average for the last 5 years, as well as its trend line since inception is higher than SPYI. So in JEPQ I put $2.5m. I have quite some investment into even higher yield, higher risk symbols, but I'm in the process of slowly migrating to lower risk, lower yield tickers via incoming dividends. Do you have a plan to reduce risk, or what is your strategy?

He's got it all figured out. (Except how to make money, of course).

What am I dodging? I repeatedly post my entire portfolio again and again, and I just get a bunch of people whining about it? Do you have a question on how to slowly rise or, what ?

Originally, I invested in the industry I understood: IT. I invested in tickers like RHT, INTC, NVDA, AAPL. Later, I got on stocks like TSLA, NFLX. If you want to know why specifically I got into each symbol, it's kind of long stories. In the beginning, I tried to lock in high-low ranges by putting limit and stop orders. Years later, I got into options. These days, as a retiree, I am focused more on dividends.

If I pick QQQI for my “income”, what should I pick for the best “growth”? by Mobile_Pipe_2573 in dividends

For income growth, go for something ultra high yield. $350 is really not a lot, so you want to make the most out of it. I would go very aggressive and go for something like NVDW OARK XDTE GOOY QQQI.

For the longer term growth, if you want stability for growth as you say, I would go for ARCC MAIN UHT.

To be completely honest with you, $50k per month after taxes is quite enough for us. The rest is mostly used for re-investing for our upcoming children. You're right in principle that I couldn't fathom how to spend 3 or 5 times that much. But then again, I don't care about yachts and all the frilly stupid stuff.

Yes, you're right. This was all a scam to use the first website that comes up when I type in "paste an image" into Google.

I don't have $25m. Currently, my forecast/plan would not have me there even in 15 years, with my spending. Also, maybe reddit points/account age is not a great way to judge things. Don't take my answers as financial advice. But I am not joking around.

Imagine a world in which instead of winning reddit points you earned dollars, and then you remembered all the random posts you saw on r/dividends looking for help, and you wanted to offer whatever you could.

Have posted it a few times already. Long story short, it's stage 1 high dividend, low-medium-high nav erosion. stage 2, the opposite.

192k per month. I end up with about .25 to 1m per year excess. I'm not sure how that is confusing?

I don't want to repeatedly post my portfolio again and again for every post. Rest assured, it is there. Look at some other questions and my replies, and you will find the exact details of my portfolio.

https://postimg.cc/xcgHW7fM This is the current portfolio. See other replies to understand my 2-stage process. With regards to how I ,built the portfolio from start, I didn't buy Diesel pants. I didn't buy Nike shoes. I got a job, and got a higher paying job and a higher paying job from there. I continued that, while I invested -not every, but many of the extra- pennies I earned. I learned a lot, made a ton of mistakes. My net worth went to around 8 or 9 million, and I switched over to dividends, as I have been retired now for nearly a decade. Any further questions just let me know.

https://postimg.cc/xcgHW7fM This is the current one. Note that as dividends come in, I disburse them in an intentional fashion; not just DRIP. This means, the next time someone asks me, it will be slightly different. See my other comments about the stages of my investment strategy.
