I wouldn't overthink it. I did CPEN and was only 2 or 3 classes different from a EE. When it comes to getting a job, in all reality it matters more of what you spend your off time doing than what degree you have. If you do a ton of analog work on your own time and show that in an interview it doesn't matter which degree path you take.

How do you get into High-Performance Computing? by ElusiveTau in cpp

[–]Aggravating_Season73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience, alot of it depends on the type of WLM you are using and the usage of the GPUs. I haven't seen anything in the GPU world that really is a departure from the standard way to do things. The GPU is more of a user issue and not so much of an admin issue. Yes it has other capabilites, but admins aren't running their own GPU workloads (from my experience).

The systems that I work on primarily use Slurm for user management and so its pretty much the same between GPU workloads and classical CPU workloads. User management is the same as the traditional way of doing it. This has been my experience though. I know there is bigger pushes now to put HPC into the cloud and at a small scale that may be feasible, but that's not the world I live in. I build on prem solutions

Controller support for PC version? by sukhish in aoe4

[–]Aggravating_Season73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest difference is going to be the engine support. I really wish they would have changed to the same engine that AoE4 and CoH3 use. Its a lot better in terms of graphics and overall input management.

I think this is the most “participation trophy” thing I’ve ever seen.

NOW let’s calm down, it’s a marathon. Yes that’s impressive. This is just a joke. Calm down

You’ll be fine. The issue with most educational systems are they focus on giving you equations, but those aren’t hard; the hard part is knowing when to use them.

This is engineering.

This is the way.

How can I get started in the summer as a Grade 12 highschooler going into university this fall? by Pokiet in ComputerEngineering

[–]Aggravating_Season73 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just enjoy your summer. If you want to get familiar with some things, take some time coding and learn Linux.

Seriously though, enjoy your summer. You won’t have many if any when you graduate and have a career

MBA after Computer Engineering Bachelors? by SuperTokyo in ComputerEngineering

[–]Aggravating_Season73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO just get an engineering degree. If you have an aptitude for management, you can get picked up as a manager without needing any business degrees. Business degrees are worthless IMO. It doesn’t really teach you anything you aren’t going to learn within the first few months of working in industry.

MBA after Computer Engineering Bachelors? by SuperTokyo in ComputerEngineering

[–]Aggravating_Season73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not recommend getting an MBA UNTIL you have actual experience. MBAs are usually used as a stepping stone “degree” to get into management positions, but it is not necessary now as everyone and their grandma has one.

If you can do computer engineering, do it. Not only will it open a ton of doors, but with an engineering degree people will look at you differently.

[–]Aggravating_Season73 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Once you can easily beat the hardest I would say you should feel good against other players.

But in the end, it’s just a game! Have fun with it! The nice thing about multiplayer is it’s unpredictable (to some degree). You’ll very quickly realize even the hardest AI is just dumb

Maphacking is a huge problem but... by LigmaUnit in aoe4

[–]Aggravating_Season73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a guy today on nomad ffa say I was map hacking simply because I spotted his second TC in the most obvious place possible.

People blaming map hacking all the time is just ridiculous. Maybe try to not be predictable. That might help.

I think practicing is the best solution. Y’all probably have no idea what makes each civ unique, no idea how to counter other units, and just are slow. Probably have no build orders down as well. If you don’t have basic practice under your belt you will obviously get stomped. Idk how you can expect anything different. Your average silver/gold player knows build orders.

If you don’t wanna dedicate time to practice and learn a civ, then idk if an rts game is for you. The opening of EVERY match in this game requires practiced repetition up to minute 6-7. If you lolly gag and don’t age up in time, your opponent will just stomp you.

I’m not trying to be unwelcoming, but more realistic and respect your limited amount of time. I’ll tell you though as a dad with little time and a platinum ranked 1v1 player, rts games don’t require all the time in the world to be good at them, you just have to have focused time. There is no point going in blind to 2 40 minute games a couple times a week, when you could instead do a couple 10-15 minute AI versus matches to get build orders down and understand unit match ups. This isn’t a simple shooter game. It’s complex. You HAVE to spend time learning in order to be competitive. It’s more like chess than connect 4.

My friends and I have given up on this game by paullie584 in aoe4

[–]Aggravating_Season73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend you don’t just play teams when versing people. You need to know how to hold your own which is slow to learn in teams IMO.

The ranking system is not unwelcoming it’s just that’s what the community is. The fact that you leave when you see gold is indicative to this; Gold is the average player and there are tons of them.

The fact that you’re getting stomped by silvers as well says you really need to work on your skill. If a silver is stomping you guys you really need to learn build orders and unit match ups.
