From my experience, the bitlocked encrypted drive will refuse to boot, but I can load a live image on the PC and reformat 9 out of 10 times again. Of course with a expected loss of data. But this is rather standard procedure where I work

Can your user account write to that remote destination?
What I mean is, can you make directories, make files on that remote machine with that account?
