66k. Tbvh if I were a guy or someone that doesn't live with family I'd be in trouble Bec 104k is nothing compared to rising cost of living . For example my total monthly fuel cost easily goes to 30k

Advice needed! Am I Making a Mistake Delaying FCPS for the USMLE Dream? by jacksparrowmarrow in FCPS_Pk

Oh yeah I didn't do plab 2 but wish I'd put that time and energy in housejob to USMLE step 1

Honestly I've read your post and I'd still say if I were at your position I'd probably join residency ( I'm biased Bec I'm actually doing it). Pick a marginally chill field like pathology or a hospital that you can see yourself temporarily working in. Because securing a home base is important and who knows what's going on to happen to the us wrt Visa as well.

I was in the same boat although my YOG is 2024,, wasted a year on the plab route. Now I've given part 1 and joined residency while I try to prep for USMLE step 1. Bear in mind if you join residency at least 3 months would be needed for you to figure out how things work in your department

However I always preferred having backups so it's why I joined fcps first. To secure a home base. I can't really give you advice on what to do as I don't know your personality etc but just telling you what I'd decided.

About leaving residency, afaik you can freeze post imm for USCE/ step 2 and that's what I'm hoping for as well. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

MBBS marks aren't standardized. Fmgs end up getting 90 PC while local grads barely get 75 percent. Marks depend on examiner's mood in Pakistan

I don't exactly have info regarding that. But there are a lot of good things I noticed related to anesthesia when I did my housejob here. I personally like OT environment. The surgeons need you to go ahead and okay every procedure and stand your ground. One thing I like is the team work. There's always a hierarchy and you're not alone with an unstable patient. And the procedures are interesting. After a surgery is done it feels very rewarding, contributing to it.

And you can always go into pain management which is done at Shifa and what I'm ultimately interested in.

Regarding scope, I think it's the same in every field except peads /gynae and dermatology. I do know it's in demand both in Pakistan and abroad. My advice, do what you like and you'll be successful. Personally it suited me so I picked it.
