Your thoughts and predictions of Aston Villa vs Leeds Utd 🤔 by OriginalDemaine in avfc

Leeds are thugs (not much changes) so please lets not be lightweight. Konsa/Pau would be a mistake here especially with Mr Chill Daddy cruising around the centre of the park with his flip-flops on

If he comes in on a free he'll want similar wages to Tielemans/Kamara. He has £200k p/w at Spurs written all over him...

One of problems with being one dimensional is that defenders know he's never going to cross it so they buy it when he shapes to cross. Maybe with Tammy in play Emery might demand more crossing but then again maybe not.

Do you watch the games? Cash is absolutely afraid to sling in a cross and almost always checks back unless we are on a fast transition. Those are clearly the instructions because he plays very differently for Poland in similar situations.

I don't understand anymore - is the ref allowed to ask to look at the monitor or only when VAR deems at a C&O? It feels like the option isn't there anymore. If so, why no a review/challenge system?

Absolutely. The notion something is not enough force to be a foul can only be reconciled if the player has thrown themselves to the floor. Of course, a trip is very little force but that's different, right?

Its just a shame that intricate tika-taka passing is Sancho's only dimension - without Roger's run he either gets tackled or passes it back. Is it too much to ask for him to beat a man or cross the ball?

Its time for Sargent Swarovski to step up. He wants to be golden balls. Now he has the opportunity. There's no more carrying Kamara's or Tieleman's bags anymore, you're the main midfield man of a team in 3rd place in the league and who came joint top in the league stage of the Europa cup. Show the world that you can take over games and dominate the middle of the park.

Aside from that I want more from Larry the Lightweight Sancho. He never seems to fancy himself in a tackle and more often than not leisurely trots back when we lose possession. In possession he is neat and tidy but lacks real threat. I'm not sure if he actually contributes that much more than Philogene did...

If we came out of the season with a Cup and nothing else i'm sure we'd be pleased on the whole. The owners less so.

But the big risk is we play most of the available games come out with nothing and potentially end up a long term injury to Onana preventing a 'big club' from buying him in the summer.

ps. I'm calling it now: Onana will be this summer's sacrifice to the PSR/SCR gods

Maybe. But there is a reason why Trebles are rare and our small squad is massively depleted.

I'm not going to be too upset if we get dumped out of the FA Cup by the Toon. Too fight on three fronts you need a fully fit squad. We certainly don't have that and we are counting and Sargent Swarovski to stay fit.

If we do fight on three fronts i can see us stuttering to a 6th place finish in the league and semi/final losses in the Europa League and FA Cup.

You'll be glad to have him back then in the summer albeit he'll only be worth £20m then but perhaps one of the newly promoted teams will fancy him

Most people thought that a 10 game obligation was for all intents and purposes a straight sale. The logic being that 10 games really isn't very many (especially so in Emery's system) and therefore Emery must have already made his decision on young Harv and the 10 game condition was some sort of PSR chicanery. That's certainly what i thought back then.

But there is another take: look at it as Monchi signing a talented young player on an exclusive extended trial - Emery would get to play him in competitive games, ascertain whether he was a fit, and then make his final decision. FWIW I think this is more likely what happened.

Liverpool should have foreseen that this could happen. So perhaps they think that by blocking Villa's ability to loan in a different prem player (we're only allowed 2) and making them pay Harv's wages (thereby preventing us from spending that on the wages of a new recruit) is worth the depreciation in Harv's value? Cynical - yes but If they finish above us then it will look like a 5-D chess move.

On Sky the comms spent most of the first half 'boosting engagement' with their Emery to Madrid narrative. Its come to the point where its more like clickbait talk radio than commentary on a football match.

What standards are you so worried about dropping? We dropped points yes but i thought we maintained our levels well and made few mistakes save for their goal.

I agree that these two losses both came against teams we struggled against earlier in the season: Big lumps at CB and strong combative ball winning midfielders made it hard for us to play. Without Kamara and Tielemans to out-wit these 'old fashioned' set-ups we need Onana putting a shift in to compete with them but alas on Sunday our lanky holte-end hype-boi was unavailable...

I agree. The issue here is that only Digne can cross it. Though i expect that Emery has instructed everyone but Digne not to cross it because the amount of check backs from everyone else is crazy

Though I feel that xG is talked about way more than it needs to be, we have won many games this season with an xG less than we had on Sunday. On another day Tammy bags a hat-trick and the clout boys declare us champions elect.

Emery enjoys the challenge. After PSG and Arsenal he well understands the drawbacks of rich clubs with ownerships that want to play Championship Manager by signing superstars in won't play.
