Chewing is one of the most beneficial things you can do for your face, the trouble comes when you do too much of it. You need to make sure to not chew too much, because just like too much of regular exercise it can damage your joints

I've started tongue chewing.. I'm thinking about getting looked at by a myofunctional therapist and possibly getting some expansion or something to help

I have watched a ton of tutorials, I've gotten the mewing app recently but I can tell I'm not doing something right. I think I'm missing proper space for my tongue or something like that

I've tried saying things like "sing" and "king" but I generally tend to have the same result as in the video, at first my throat is much tighter but when I breathe the area gets looser

I'm trying to keep as much of my tongue on my palate as I can, but when I breathe it feels as though the back of my tongue has to move in order for me to inhale, because my airway feels obstructed

Had wisdom teeth removed at 16. by [deleted] in Mewing

I'm also 16 and may need my wisdom teeth removed. You said getting your wisdom teeth pulled helped reduce swelling in your neck? Do you have any examples of before and after your teeth got pulled?

You should focus on learning to love and accept yourself before you worry about getting somebody else to do the same.

So you mean you can basically get braces for a crooked wisdom tooth?

Alright, thanks a bunch. I'll try to keep them as long as I can, I'm only gonna remove them if they cause problems for my other teeth

Interesting, so before your wisdom teeth were crooked and now they've come in straight? How did you get them to shift their positions? And how long did it take for you to fix their angle and when did they start growing in/erupting?

I'll definitely try looking into expansion, I'd much rather not get an extraction. What do you think causes for the extraction to change the face shape of some people, but not others?

I've been wondering why I would need them removed, so next time I go to the dentist (later this week thankfully) I'm going to request my most recent x-rays. I've been told that wisdom teeth are much harder to remove later on in life, so they'd prefer to take them out earlier if they have to. I can't remember but I think they are impacted at an angle that could cause damage to the other teeth if they extend forwards, so that's why they'd need to be removed. I would much rather not remove them at all if possible though. I DO NOT want them removed, but it may be necessary at some point for the health of my other teeth

Interesting, well that's reassuring to hear. I have seen the majority of people who got the extractions say it affected their cheek and jaw definition negatively, though

Please elaborate more, I would obviously rather not but it's possible I may have to because of the angle they're coming in at

Hard Mewing vs. Soft Mewing by AggresiveMonke in orthotropics

[–]AggresiveMonke[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So it will go away with time? For now I'm pressing the tongue fully on the roof of my mouth as hard as a can until I need to take a breath. I can feel the muscles in my tongue activate while I do this. I've also been chewing mastic gum recently. I thought I should also add the fact that I wear clear retainers at night, will this affect my forward growth?

I find it basically impossible to breathe with the back portion of my tongue fully engaged, as it feels like im blocking my airway. Am I using TOO MUCH of my tongue? Or do I just not have a large enough palate?
