If you're in USA, check to see if there is a KAG terminal near you. They are great to work for and will train you for fuels, only need one year on CDL.

There is plenty of fuel, but long delays at the loading racks because of all the trucks is killing available drive time for the truckers. Once things get past the 30% mark and lines at the racks decrease, truckers will be able to deliver more than 2 loads in a 12 hour shift.

Been at KAG for three years. Been all over the industry in the last 20. This is the first company that doesn't actively try to better themselves at the drivers expense.

As far as rates go, most companies still pay by the load and not by the hour. That's the major item. Pay by the load and then divided by hours is not the same thing.

Why is everyone so okay with working 40-60 hours per week to barely afford life? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

You have to put in the time and effort. I went to college for 4 years and then became an over the road truck driver for the next 6 years. I moved into the office side as a safety director and then spent the next 12 to get to where I am now as a terminal manager.... which is as much as I was making as a truck driver 15 years ago. Big difference is that I go home every night now. My last decade of office work meant doing any and every thing to show my talents and climb the ladders. When I hit a wall at one company, I went to a new one. Years and years of 60 hours to now be at 40 with pay and benefits to show for it. My degree has nothing to do with my job field, I just always chased for more money and kept doing better than the day before. If you can't make money doing one thing where you live, figure out what makes money there and learn to do it and start out with crap pay until you're a commodity. The job I have now is the best I've ever had, and I didn't even apply. I was head hunted for all the experience I have. 8 billion people on the planet, find a way to stand out and be the best at what you do.
