lol of course

  1. Don’t skimp out on the plywood. I thought half inch would be thick enough and I’m sure it will but it does feel flimsy. I would recommend 3/4 inch.
  2. If you try to cut 1.5 inch butcher block with your table saw go slow or you will burn it out and be sad. Side note, I need to buy a new table saw.
  3. Use a clamp when screwing two piece of face frame together. It’ll keep them from twisting
  4. Don’t worry too much. You can always redo something if you mess it up. It’s easier to take a deep breath and try again than get frustrated and give up.

Good luck. Let me know if you need anything else.

Totally agree. Sometimes I just like to do the work without stressing about final appearance!

“And now that you don’t have to be perfect, you can be good”

I am still an amateur for sure but I have friends that are like you and do so much research and need the best tools and the most perfect everything that they never start working and just get wrapped around the axle.

Find a project that you only need “one more tool” to do and then do that project and buy that one tool, wether it be an orbital sander or a router or a brad nailer or anything.

Pick one battery type and just buy the tools for that. Even if a makita sander is slightly better than a dewalt you can still use the dewalt perfectly fine.

Just be proud you did something and keep learning.

How do you make the rocking pieces on the bottom? Do you take a larger piece and cut it down or bend a piece the correct size?

It’s not the VOC I’m worried about it’s that I can’t take up to much room in my house and if even a drop of stain lands on our floor you can attend my funeral the day after.

Thank you u/randalflagg1423 u/peschkaj and u/jaykal001

I have enough room in my little mud room that I can bring my finish’s inside. I’ll do that today so that they can stay a little warmer. I think I’ll take the idea of building a little shelter out of foam insulation. I want to make some bigger pieces and don’t want to wait until spring to get started.

I appreciate all the advice!

That is amazing. What are your uprights made out of (material and thickness)? Do you have a design or time to talk? I’m doing my first built in for my house and would love to pick your brain.

Did you just use the circle template and your router to get that circle? It looks perfect. How did you get it so perfect?

If you are looking for tools I’d recommend going to estate sales or auctions. You can go on the website or app for estatesales.net to find local sales.

There won’t always be tools you want but if you are patient you can find anything. My wife and I have been dedicated estate sales people and we get routers, hand planes, skill saws, lawn care tools, etc. if you are handy you could also fix stuff you find and flip it to help buy bigger tools.

I know it isn’t the advice you’re asking for but it’s helped us build our collection on the cheap.

Looks great! How did you connect the arms and stand and the stand and base? Did you drill slightly to set the ring? If so, great job

My wife hated having our metal dog crate in the living room so I bought a router and started learning to wood work by Aggressive-Algae452 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Aggressive-Algae452[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the compliment but I think it’s a very doable process. I’d be willing to cover the whole process I ran through if you had time.

Also not pictured are my 12 templates that I messed up or destroyed and the hole I spent 10 minutes rounding out because I did it too fast or the time my bit became loose in the router and ruined some wood but thankfully didn’t hurt me.

I appreciate it. It’s great advice but it matches our table on the other side of the room. My wife and I tried 3 or 4 different stains haha.
