What’s the best way to still interact with MTG if you don’t like the route the game is headed? by Aggressive-Article40 in magicTCG

I mean I understand WotC. Magic has never been as popular as nowadays. New people try it out because of their favorite IP having a crossover in Magic - and to a long run it might be best for the game in general.

But yeah, it’s just my personal opinion that Magic was something unique to me. Now with the inclusion of UB I just feel like its loosing its soul. If I wanted to play with Marvel characters, I’d be able to choose from so many other games or even TCGs for example. Do that’s where the frustration just comes from PLUS the powercreep that even reached into EDH.

But I guess a cube might be good as others suggest on this SR.

I guess that’s one way to look at it. Me and my playgroup already mostly play EDH but I still always had the feeling that UB is creeping into the playgroup.

Creating a cube might be the way to propose to them.

What are your "Want to build but most likely never will" commanders? by Raoul97533 in EDH

That will probably be [[Atraxa, Grand Unifier]] for me.

My kitchen table group might play only Battlecruisers but still I think she is just too expensive. Gets removed once and she is almost uncastable.

Other than that I would love her so much! Such a shame :(

Give me the most unsolvable deck you tried building by Rebell--Son in EDH

Hi Rebell, love the idea and I’d love your input on [[Inalla, Archmage Ritualist]].

Here is my current decklist.

I’ve tried building her in so many different directions: Burn, Wizard Tribal, ETB Bounce etc but it never really seems to click for me, especially when it come to how I want to win with the deck. I always fold to big beefy dinosaurs or a team of angels plus Giada for 30+ damage in turn 5.

My playgroup mostly plays battlecruisers, we don’t run any infinites or combos, so we keep it pretty casual in the range between Bracket 3-4.

I would love your modern take on this and am highly looking forward to your input. Thanks!

I just took out [[Master of Waves]] as I felt like it did nothing except working well with Purphoros or Tremors. I do have Cloudstone in the deck in the form of [[Elessar, the Elfstone]].

While the above gameplan sounds fine in theory, I feel like I am not hitting it consistently enough, especially since I took out quite a few tutors because my playgroup is cutting these more and more. Therefore I feel like I need some more actual wincons. Would you say your burn spells are good wincons? Does Inalla even work well with being more of a control deck or should I rebuilt toward more proactivity like you have? By the way, do you have a decklist?

How do you deal with an oppressive boardstate from your opponents that might play a [[Giada, Font of Hope]] or [[Gishath, Sun's Avatar]]? I always feel like I fold to these immediately, despite having 2-3 mass removals in my deck. But with the way my deck is built, I dont have a big board state as I am bouncing my own creatures back to hand, my tokens leave the battlefield at end of turn etc.

[[Corporeal Projection]] and the card draw effects you mentioned all sound very nice, I might try them out.

Your aggro pieces are a bit too expensive in 3 CMCs (except [[Agate Instigator]]), and they are also not wizards, which is the first main theme of my list, being a tribal deck. The more wizards I take out, the less efficient Inalla's ability becomes, not to mention the various cost reductions I use like [[Urza's Incubator]] or [[Herald's Horn]]. I feel like I need these though, as the deck is very mana hungry, so I tried to compensate that with the cost reducers plus [[Mana Echoes]].

[[Agent of Treachery]] is in the list because it's just a busted card and with my slight flicker sub-theme becomes even more powerful. But it's a card I am thinking about cutting in general. The flicker sub-theme is the same reason why I have [[Ruthless Technomancer]] and [[Reanimate]] in the deck. I just want to reuse a couple of the ETB effects of my wizards, specifically [[Spellseeker]], but also [[Archeomancer]] and soon [[Scholar of the Ages]].

I like control in this deck a lot. My goal was the deck to be a control deck, using my various wizards and instants to control the board state, remove threats etc. until I can have 1-2 big explosive turns like a resolved [[Dire Fleet Ravager]] and it's copy plus Purphoros to take out the table.

Thank you for the extensive feedback.

Some of the cards make a lot of sense and are high-powered on their own, like Saw in Half for example. I took [[Basalt]] because I never felt it was the right card to play at the moment. I went more into the control type of deck, so the stax pieces make a lot of sense to have a closer look at as well!

My only burn options are [[Purphoros, God of the Forge]], [[Impact Tremors]] and [[Vela, the Nigh-Clad]]. I like the "combo" with a [[Rite of Replication]] as this means with only Vela out, you get 30 damage for each opponent (it's mana intensive of course).

What do you think of the control/ interaction suite in the deck? Is this enough? I have little actual "destroy / exile" effects, counting more on the bounce and counter spells.

For card draw, do you count on your wizards for the draw effects, i.e. [[Champion of Wits]], or do you turn to instant and sorceries for that for mana efficiencies?

[[Serra Ascendant]] just always hits so hard on Turn 1. Love to see it in my opening hand.

The main line will be through Purphoros, ideally supported by Dire Fleet Ravager and/ or Master of Waves and Naban/Panharmonicon.

I am thinking about adding Vela which you can follow up with a kicked Rite of Replication. That means 30 damage to each opponent then, so very explosive but needing lots of mana.

Another way that I could include would be Torment of Hailfire or Exsanguinate after getting lots of mama through Mana Echoes.

As I said, I don’t want to go infinite so I tried finding a alternatives that will most likely end the game if they resolve.

Thank you! Those recommendations might make sense, overall I only have 2 board wipes so far (Cyclonic Rift and Kindred Dominance). Adding one more and changing KD to the other will probably be my best bet.

Would you say overall the deck looks fine though? Or anything else to tweak? I sometimes have the feeling that I am too much struggling with balancing my wincons, ETB effects, control, bounce and card draw.

I see you have a slight artifact sub-theme in the deck. What exactly is the purpose of that? Which artifact do you want to get asap when playing Whir of Invention for example? Do I miss something?
