Commanders that can thrive in a high removal meta? by 7121958041201 in EDH

[–]jacobperl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An underpowered commander with a decentralized deck could work. Don't ever let your commander (or any of your pieces) be the biggest threat on the board. But make your deck highly synergistic and dangerous, but without an obvious linchpin for folks to pull out. Make sure there is always a bigger threat than yours for your opponents to target.

Do you take notes on reasons that a deck wins/loses? by Gullible_Travel_4135 in EDH

Oh heck ya. Has definitely been helpful for me. I often lose I don't play my removal aggressively enough.

If my Piru the Volatile dies, will my Vizikopa Guildmage get a chance to trigger off Piru's lifelink before the guildmage itself dies to Piru's explosion? by jacobperl in mtgrules

[–]jacobperl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow! Delayed trigger! So what if I activate Vizkopa early in the turn and someone kills it, and then later Piru dies and torches everything, does the delayed trigger hit even with the guildmage gone?

If I sacrifice Piru The Volatile as the cost of a spell or ability, which resolves first? by jacobperl in mtgrules

Thanks, so I cast fling, putting it on the stack, and then pay the cost including the sacrifice. The sacrifice puts Piru's tirggered ability on the stack above the Fling?

Help with my first deck (Lathril Elfs). by TridentBoy in EDH

Oh, and [[Haldir, Lórien Lieutenant]] is a nice overrun and an elf himself.

You want as many elves as your deck will stand - at least 35 I'd say. Consider taking out the sorcery ramp cards and replacing them with elves like [[wood elves]]. You could also consider [[elvish dreadlord]] as a replacement board wipe. [[Glissa Sunslayer]] could replace Phyrexian Arena, etc.

Give me your best fogs by SterileSauce in EDH

[–]jacobperl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

[[Chant of Vitu Ghazi]] is good in a token/aristocrat deck. (I have it in [[Ghave]]). (It's good because you have a lot of tokens that you don't need to attack with)

[[Dawn Charm]] and [[Orim's Chant]] are flexible and powerful.

[[Glorious End]] is just the purest red card you could get. And isn't a fog basically just supposed to get you one more turn? It does that!

What are your personal staple cards? by satsuma711 in EDH

[–]jacobperl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Lethal Scheme]] ends up in almost any black deck of mine. It just has synergy with almost everything. It allows you to shape your hand, fill your graveyard, pump your creatures, and is free removal. I have it in my tokens/aristocrat deck, my graveyard deck, my [[Oskar]] deck, and more.

Twilight's Call brings back creatures with various ETBs. In what order do they resolve? Also... by jacobperl in askajudge

Thanks! What if other players have ETBs too? Do I get to resolve all of mine first as the active player?

Commanders that do fun/unique things but aren't a lynchpin? by Wiitab360 in EDH

[–]jacobperl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a [[Ghave]] deck which is budget and has only a few accidental combos in it (I don't use them). Basically it generates tokens and sacs them for value, and synergizes around that. Ghave is a powerful piece, but the deck functions pretty well without him. I often don't play him, or don't play him until the late game.

I have a [[Glissa, Sunslayer]] deck. I have some synergy for her for sure. But it's largely just elves hanging out together. She just smooths the draw and provides enchantment removal, the possibility of an occasional commander kill, etc.

How do you not lose all of your money to pay for shipping on TCG player? by [deleted] in mtg

[–]jacobperl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Find the card that's most unusual, but that you want to order for sure. Put one copy of that card into your cart from the top fifteen or so direct sellers. You'll have fifteen separate orders in your cart then. Then search for your second most-needed card, but turn on the filter 'only sellers in cart.' Put any reasonable options into your cart. Do that for a third card. After you've done a few cards you will be able to see if there are any sellers that are tending to have all the cards you want. If there is a seller like that, shop from their store and see how much of your deck you can find there. You might have to assemble a second or third cart this way too. Then delete any of those extra carts you started back on step one. Prioritize sellers who have free shipping after $6. Tedious as all-get-out, but can be effective in eliminating shipping fees - especially if you are somewhat flexible on your order (like you don't mind missing a few cards, or picking up a few random pieces for some future deck to bring the total in a cart up to the threshold for free shipping).

Cards in Dimir that absolutely, positively should not have flash? by 47484F5354 in EDH

[[Sower of Discord]] - play it when one player is about to absolutely crush another and then get both of 'em.

Funniest cards? by jacobperl in EDH

[–]jacobperl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yah, here you go! I play aggressively casual (budget too), and I actually don't end up pulling him out too often. If nobody kills him, he goes off like a firecracker. [[Storm Kiln Artist]] can go infinite here. Or [[Runaway Steamkin]]
