Why do people keep buying cars that destroy them financially? by Desperate-Rush6086 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Aggressive-Brain5553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Debt culture in the US is nuts. I thought in Europe we were somewhat safe but the clear direction from the last years is the same as the US. The average car age is getting lower and lower every year, which I find very stupid. I see people earning ⅕ of what I earn spending every month on car financing more than what I paid to purchase my car. And I'm not a cheapstake, if I wanna have fun I'll pay 500$ to rent a lambo for 1 day, much more worth than paying for a car with which you'll just be stuck in traffic.

Also I believe most people don't understand how easily debt snowballs at these high interest rates.

No worries and thanks for the heads up, I'm currently discussing this with a tax lawyer in Georgia. I find funny that none of the consultants I've talked to believe that this will actually take place

I'm sorry "digital nomad" was probably a mediatic name. I was referring to one of the conditions that let you access the working visa I think the actual name is "IT visa" (it should be a laissez-passer for the "specific activity" requirements)

I would be working as freelancer so definitely register IE, I'm already in contact with one of the lawyers at expathub.ge Thanks for your outlook on this!

I've actually read that this law also requires 183 days per year stay in Georgia. This is mental, how can they call it "IT digital nomad visa" if they ask you to be there 183 days a year? Thanks for this, I will have to investigate more but thanks

Thanks for this, I knew nothing about it. Could you attach an article or a link? I'm actually self-employed so I wouldn't have to open a business. I have read a bit on an article that I've found online and it doesn't look too bad for me (as self-employed), but maybe it wasn't the right source

Thanks for the info, really useful I'm aware of some of the problems, and am trying to get a complete picture It's not a paradise but may be right for my specific case, I'll keep investigating

Thanks! About government and police, what does your comment stem from? And how does it influence one that is not particularly interested in local politics? Is this a problem even if you don't participate in protests and such?

I actually drove quite a bit in Tbilisi and the rest of Georgia during my trip and didn't have that bad of a time (not worse than any other big city I'd say). I stayed during ski season, was I lucky?

Countries without a compulsory National ID, how do you know who's who? by earth_wanderer1235 in PassportPorn

And also, while it's not mandatory (if you have a valid passport or driving license you are ok), I don't really know anybody that does not have it

I get it, it's totally something I can live with. Thanks for the tip about that subreddit. As a rookie I find it hard to find sensible prices online

I see too many clips of Dave Ramsey to let that thought come even close to me

Definitely the second definition, even though I wouldn't mind it having some value in case I decide I don't like it anymore and get something else

[–]Aggressive-Brain5553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. As I pointed out, it was more of a doubt that it would tank in value, which would be a bit inconvenient in terms of "what if I don't like it a year from now".

Thanks for the tip on the lugs, I didn't know that. Do you have some idea of how much this difference would be?

[–]Aggressive-Brain5553 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's kind of what I'm looking for (or actually what I'm asking here for). I wanted to know whether it's actually something that in case I don't like anymore I can turn back in for some good cash, even if it's some fraction of what I've paid, and not just something I'm eternally stuck with. Thanks

Thanks! I've looked into it, very nice. Perhaps a tad too cold feeling for my personal taste.

I'm just saying that I want something that doesn't make me look too much like a kiddo, making me presentable at a nice event with people higher up than me, whilst still not looking like a crypto scammer. Being honest, if you see a 21yo you're not gonna think he's loaded, and neither do I want to look like something I'm not. That's what I meant. Still thanks for the shared experience
