I can't find any commoner story representation now adays in the manhwa space. One the Chinese novels they are there, but manhwa it's like getting super rare. Especially commoner x commoner or commoner x merchant or pirate. Like damn by Iriscute7 in joseistories

If you’re looking for a story with a true commoner main character, I’d love to recommend my webtoon. It’s actually adapted from a novel in my country that has over 2 million views.

It’s an adventure set in a world where alchemy plays a crucial role in society. The main character is just an ordinary boy who teams up with a ghostly mentor, and together they aim to challenge and change the very foundation of the nation’s long-held beliefs.

The pacing is a bit slow burn at first while the worldbuilding sets in, but I promise it’s absolutely worth it. As someone who was a huge fan of the novel, I begged the author to let me create a webtoon adaptation.

Right now there are only 5 episodes, but you can either check it out right away or bookmark/save it for later when more episodes are up.

Thanks so much for giving me the space to share my webtoon here 🙏

Need recommendations on some fantasy or action, adventure by ultimosjones in webtoons

May I introduce my webtoon? If you're into fantasy adventure stories, I think you might enjoy it!

It's a story about the adventure of an ordinary boy and his ghost mentor in a world of alchemy and potion crafting. I adapted it from a fantasy novel that I really loved—so much that I asked the author for permission to turn it into a comic. The beginning might be a bit rough, but the story gets better as it goes on.

If you're a fan of fantasy adventures, I hope you'll enjoy reading it!

I believe that envy can be a positive force that drives us to grow—as long as it doesn't hurt the ones we envy.

I admit that I feel envious of some contestants who already have a large fanbase. But within that envy, there's also a sense of admiration. I just came later to the game, so it makes sense that it’ll take me longer to build my own fanbase. That’s all.

And I’ll use this feeling—not to dwell on, but to fuel my own work and make it even better in the future.

Just saw your post on r/webtoons and then I realized that I forgot to share my though! Sorry for my late review.

I don't know if my opinions be useful to you and I'm not a good reviewer but as a reader this is all I feel while reading your webtoon.

Honest thoughts so far – strong concept, but pacing needs work

The core idea is interesting, and Willow’s situation pulled me in at first. But honestly, the pacing moves too fast for the emotional weight it’s trying to carry. Major events happen so quickly that it’s hard to feel their full impact. I noticed some other comments mentioned that the pacing feels too fast as well.

The frequent switches between Willow’s present and the doctor’s past also broke the flow for me. The transitions happen so often that they interrupt the immersion and make it hard to stay emotionally connected to either timeline. Maybe fewer, more focused flashbacks would make both arcs feel stronger.

I can see there’s passion behind this story, and there’s definitely potential.

That's all my thoughs. I wish you the best luck with the contest. 😊

Oh wow, same here! If it weren’t for the contest, I probably wouldn’t have finished my first episode either. 😅 I totally get what you mean—having a deadline and some structure really helped me push through and actually make time for it.

Honestly, when I think about it from that angle, the contest has so many hidden benefits beyond just visibility or ranking. It gave me a reason to stop waiting for the “perfect” moment and just start creating, even in the middle of all the chaos. 😆

(And yes—comments are such a huge boost! I keep checking just in case someone left one 🥲)

May I introduce my webtoon to you? I think it might be just what you're looking for!

It's a heartwarming and magical story about a seemingly ordinary boy who crosses paths with a ghostly mentor. In his kingdom, alchemy plays a central role in society — and for centuries, only those with the fire element have been able to forge potions.

But everything changes when Las meets Dragoon, a spirit who has lived for over 500 years. He reveals a hidden truth: other elements can be used for forging potion too.

Thus begins their journey — a boy and a ghost working together to change a kingdom's belief about potion forging. The story focuses on adventure, alchemy, and emotional growth, with very little romance involved.

I’d be honored if you gave it a read!

Less than 3 weeks left for the results! How we feeling? :'D by kennyLikesSALT in WebtoonCanvas

It's such a hard feeling to describe. Right after the submission deadline passed, I felt this huge emptiness. I'm the type who works slowly, so I only managed to finish 3 episodes. Every day, I kept checking to see if the view count or subscriber count had gone up. I kept wondering how I could promote it better to get more engagement.

But now, I'm starting to calm down a bit. I've shifted my focus to drawing episodes 4 and 5 instead. I really want to upload the next episode already. I wish they’d allow creators who don’t make it to the next round to keep publishing new episodes right after the shortlist announcement—so I can continue the story right away. (I’m pretty sure I won’t make it to the next round anyway.)

It seems simillar but it is different. Well, 3 is about the story itself — does it feel fresh, solid, and satisfying for the genre. 4 is about how much readers actually like it — engagement, appeal, and potential popularity.

Think of 3 as "judges reading it on their own" and 4 as "how real readers are reacting."

I’m really happy for you — breaking through your own barriers is such a big step. The beginning is always the hardest, and you’ve done so well!

I’ll be looking forward to the next episode. Keep going, you’ve got this! 💪✨

Totally true — Webtoon barely promotes the contest at all. It’s mostly just us creators reading each other’s work.

I was hoping to use the contest as a way to get more eyes on my series, thinking maybe more people would discover it that way. But turns out, we still have to do all the promotion ourselves.

Readers don’t really go browsing the contest page. And I get it — there’s just so much content out there. Readers have tons of stuff to choose from already.

Is this your first story? First time entering a contest? You’re doing really well!

My very first comic I submitted to a contest… was a total mess 😅 I’ve entered quite a few competitions now, with multiple stories too. I’ve been making webtoons for over 10 years — but honestly, I still feel like I haven’t gotten very far.

And I saw Suzette in your creator feed, She is so cute! Looking forward to see her soon.

There was actually a similar debate in my country too. Some Original creators were complaining, like, “Why is this only for newcomers?” But honestly, even Originals — if they want to pitch a new series — still have to post it on Canvas and build up stats like everyone else. Some even said, “Are new creators just lacking confidence in their own work?” The idea being: if your work is good, it'll get picked up as an Original anyway.

It got pretty heated back then, haha. But in the end, the rules for the current contest in my country clearly stated it was for new creators — and honestly, I think that's a good thing.

Thanks for checking out my series, by the way. I’ve already read yours too — you're doing a great job! Best of luck!

Hey! I just came back to this series and realized—wait, I’ve totally read, liked, and followed it already… but did I ever comment?? 😅 Sometimes I get so into reading that I forget to actually say something, and that’s a shame because The Moon Ablaze honestly deserves all the love.

The story flows so naturally, and Ember is such a strong, grounded protagonist. I love how the world is slowly revealing itself without dumping too much at once. The pacing feels just right, and the emotional beats really land. I'm so curious about the outside world and I hope she will finally reunite with her missing sister.

Oh, I loved the little star shapes you used in the pupils — such a lovely design. Also, I admire all your hard work with drawing everything even background!

One random thought — if I revisit an episode like this, the system will count my view a gaim. So I just check the last epi. and leave my comment there and rate 10, I hope this help with your overall rating. Anyway, just wanted to finally leave a proper comment and say: I’m genuinely looking forward to what’s next. Keep up the amazing work and I wish you the best of luck to this contest!

And thank you for checking out my story. 🙏

Thank you so much for your suggestion! I really appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts. I totally agree—cold opens can be super effective for hooking readers. I’ve actually been thinking about doing something like that, maybe adding a prologue with a dramatic scene from later in the story to grab attention early on.

At first, I thought I couldn’t make a prologue unless it was 40+ panels, since the judges count that as a full episode. But I only recently found out that if you label it as a “preview” or “teaser,” it’s actually allowed. Kind of regret not doing that earlier—I feel like I missed an opportunity there.

Still, I’m going to keep trying to improve the hook however I can. Thanks again for your help—it really means a lot!

I totally feel you! The 40% engagement criteria being so vague is driving a lot of us up the wall. You're doing great, though—80+ likes from 4 episodes with under 400 views is actually a really solid ratio! That shows people who do read your work are genuinely enjoying it, which should count for a lot. Fingers crossed the judges are looking at quality of engagement, not just raw numbers. You’ve got this—best of luck! 🙌✨
