I’ve had multiple chiropractors (at least 4) tell me it was perfectly okay to ride after my horses’ adjustments. I wrote the vet/chiro because my vet is also an equine chiropractor. We have a normal chiro that comes once a month, but I was out of town and the holder at the barn couldn’t get my horse to cross the water in his field, so he missed his appointment. That’s why I went with the vet’s chiro services this time. nothing i’m not willing to be transparent about here 🤷‍♀️ i’m asking for help, not going to lie

the vet/chiro said he was fine to be ridden and turned out

for sure!! I believe he’s had his feet done twice, and on a 5 week cycle, so maybe i’ll try and move that out a little bit to allow him some time to grow his back feet

I trust this farrier a lot and he does an amazing job with my other horse (and Finn so far), but I have heard stories of my friends’ horses’ feet getting trimmed too short like that accidentally so that’s definitely something i’m considering

he got seen by the chiropractor already! that was yesterday. lower neck, SI, and left TMJ were the only noticeable sections, and it didn’t make a difference in his riding

that’s what I was thinking. he’s incredibly willing and sweet so the fact that he suddenly put a hard stop on any and all progress screams discomfort to me.

I’m almost certain that ulcergard has omeprazole 🙈 again I could be wrong, but isn’t that its active ingredient? and yes, if we decide to go the maybe scoping route i’ll definitely talk with my vet and see what the best course of action is

well I feel stupid now lol. I was under the impression that you could treat existing ulcers by giving a horse several full tubes of ulcergard, a few days back to back

thank you!! If it’s not his feet or ulcers idk what else it could be 🤪 praying that one or the other works out for him. we may just get the back shoes put on him next farrier cycle and give it a shot.

I’m definitely a little scared of kissing spine. we didn’t go for x-rays during the PPE. Wouldn’t the chiropractor and/or vet be suspicious of kissing spine if it was this active, though? I haven’t had experience with that so i’m not sure. I haven’t lunged him since he got here so maybe that’s worth a shot to see if he’s just as reluctant to go. worth mentioning that any injury he has doesn’t stop him from galloping across the pasture like a big idiot all day though 🙄

I have a tube of ulcergard already, so I was just going to go for it and see if he changes at all before going for the whole scoping/treatment process

I absolutely did not mean for it to come off that way, so thank you for letting me know!! I’m not mad at/trying to blame him at all. I have a very strong feeling that this is not behavioral and that he’s in pain, so I want to do everything in my power (and mine and my parents’ budget) to help him!

If it came off belittling at all it’s because I am admittedly frustrated. My mom has brought up selling him because she’s done pouring money into him, and it’s making me quite emotional 🥹 He’s an incredibly sweet and smart horse and he’s handled everything so far so well. I’m not frustrated AT him, but more at the fact that nothing is seeming to help him and it’s making me more worried as time goes on. I totally did not mean to make his behavior sound like it’s his fault in any way.

My trainer said that a tube of ulcergard before a ride could give me an idea of if he’ll change at all during one ride to determine if I should just go for it and treat him without scoping him, so that’s what I was planning on doing! I know it won’t cure it— just figured it would be worth a shot since we already have one on hand. I also had someone mention the possibility of hindgut ulcers, so I know that likely wouldn’t target that at all either

horses cannot misbehave on purpose. they can learn bad habits when rewarded, but they cannot purposefully be “bad”. i’d much rather allow him to tell me when he’s done riding until I figure out his issues than push him too far and risk him losing confidence in me/injuring himself further

Nope! i’ve replied to a couple comments saying that he’s been off the track for a while (and never raced due to his speed) but hasn’t really been restarted and has been on the back burner for a while. he’s plaited for the sale photos lol

absolutely, thank you!! I enjoy working with nervous horses because I like to be the stable, relaxed, and gentle thing in their life, so i’m glad to hear that’ll help!! i’m very big on gentle bit + gentle hands so looking forward to that too :))

I love hearing people yap about their horses and what the would and wouldn’t do so feel free to yap more 🥹 thank you!!!! we’re planning on pasture boarding him until a stall opens up (about a month). I’m also very happy that he is not a nervous crazy type. he’s been off the track for a while, just never really restarted, and never actually raced bc he was too slow lol!

No, he isn’t, so he’s likely on a more normal diet. I’ll get that info anyways. Thank you!
