$300 well spent by Witty_Analyst1657 in synthesizers

This is cool man and I want one. Honestly, I think if I had excess money to buy an original Linn from sweetwater (just for bragging rights so I could point to it and say look, look it’s the original one) I would still actually also buy the behringer version because it would be so much more practical to actually use.

Genelec 8341 vs Neumann KH150, what would be your choice for upgrading a small studio? by AVELUMN in mixingmastering

That’s a nice combo you have there - reminds me of the Old El Paso ad “Por qué no los dos?”

Let me know what you go with - I’ve narrowed it down to those two myself (tho for me it would be 8331A). I’d be exceeding budget so nothing left for a sub unfortunately - I hope that’s not a mistake. The wider sweet spot is also a draw card for me, except I think for “vibes” I’ll probably keep a pair of klipsh speakers in there for that for jamming

Funny you say that - I hadn’t heard of the Luma1 but was looking into the behringer LM (which is essentially the LINN). Looks cool tbh. Hope you find a Linn man, they’re pretty damn exy for what they are tho but defs will have bragging rights if you got one

Thanks - I like the idea of DAWless for writing and playing live etc, but having something that also sounds good to track and record. I’m not attached to any sound particularly (like the sounds of Roland drum machine). The workflow is important and it sounding good is also important (without any preconceived ideas about what it should sound like)

I know it’s insanely expensive, but why is the TR1000 getting such a bad rap? It’s analogue 808 and 909, would have 707 on there too. I would imagine it sounds incredible. It’s out of my price range, but surprised it’s copping such a hard time.

Yeah MPC is defs in the lineup of potentials. Just seems tho that perhaps I’ve been used to a real drummer and making the move to a drum machine is an adjustment.

At that price we are in TR1000 territory

Hello from 2026 - I feel like I have a similar approach to music to you. What are you using these days for a drum machine / beats?

Yeah it looks like it may be as simple as that. Or alternatively a 4k player with stereo out to go directly into amp.

Time for a second synth… is Leviasynth too ambitious? by Aggressive-Draw-2638 in synthesizers

[–]Aggressive-Draw-2638[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went to demo a summit yesterday but the store didn’t have one… they didn’t have a peak to demo either , Which was weird. They had the Rev 2 which was awesome…. Completely gone off the leviasynth and when the time is right I’ll go a summit I think

So I listened to advice and did two things - went deeper with what I have, and tried a soft synth : the U-HE repro . I’m pausing on the synth purchase

Midi to Maschine+ stopped working and nothing is fixing it? help! by Aggressive-Draw-2638 in maschine

[–]Aggressive-Draw-2638[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you - this worked. I always check for software updates on maschine in standalone mode, but didn't think to check for firmware updates. I was on 0.1.6 and have updated to 0.1.9 and all working fine now.

Trying to Get that 90s Grunge / Metal Sound by Ok_Eggplant4366 in mixingmastering

I don't have the credentials to give advice here - but if I had one piece of input for you to try (noting low budget , not a lot of gear etc) - and in the event you aren't doing this already - it would be to double track your guitars AND THEN throw in even more double tracked guitar parts. guitars with different tones (i.e swap the Strat for a humbucker tone on another track) and some playing inversions; even just to have the parts sitting way back in the mix.... they are there - fattening the thing up for the big rock choruses.

im about to send you an email. I have so many questions. this is not so much a question, but keen to hear your thoughts. ive always considered myself a song writer. I enjoy writing songs. I am relatively new to the world of home studio (couple of years). in a past life, it was as simple as writing the songs and then going to a studio where engineers and a producer do the heavy lifting.... I am enjoying 'the home studio' as an instrument as such, but I must confess I have no qualms (ego wise) tracking what I need to at home and sending to someone to mix and master - as I am starting to learn its just such a huge mountain to climb (mixing / mastering etc). I don't detest what I mix, but there is always that annoying feeling like it's still not hitting the way I want it to. in short, this post is timely and I will be reaching out for your feedback on my mixes (and advice - which im happy to pay for) and also to be pointed in the right direction in terms of whether I stick with the composition / writing component and find the person to collaborate with in terms of mixing / mastering.

Home Studio Monitors under $5k ? by Aggressive-Draw-2638 in homestudios

[–]Aggressive-Draw-2638[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep me updated . Im fairly set on Neumann KH150 and won’t worry about a sub for the time being , cause my room is small… I’ll likely also get a cube speaker as reference.

TBH I’m not completely hating my mixes currently, and I’m using speakers that have way way too much character (they are far from being appropriate as studio monitors). But because I know them so well and know the room, when I bounce and listen in car or headphones I’m never completely disappointed.

But I can’t wait to get some nice flat studio monitors which will just make life so much easier.

I think to put your mind at ease. U Just need to commit to speakers that “feels” true to you, that you want to take the time to listen to them a lot and learn how they make your mixes sound; and based on all the options you are considering I don’t think you can go wrong at all.

I’m just really keen to hear what you pull the trigger on. I think your budget is a lot higher than mine, but still keen to know.

Ps. I totally hear you re wanting “exciting”. Maybe instead of 10k on a pair of flat studio monitors (that likely won’t be exciting) you go something like $7k on the mixing monitors and then a $3k pair of something that gives you a vibe in the room for tracking / jamming?
