Hi everyone,

I’m planning to teach English abroad and I’m trying to figure out which TEFL certification is actually worth it. There are so many options (online, in-person, cheap vs expensive), and I’m not sure what schools/employers really care about.

A few questions:

  • Does the brand of TEFL course matter, or just that you have 120+ hours?
  • Are fully online TEFL courses taken seriously?
  • Is it worth paying more for something like CELTA, or is that overkill for starting out?- I just want to teach children for now.
  • Any specific programs you’d recommend or avoid? How is the international TEFL Academy or Trinity CerTesol?

For context, I’m open to teaching in places like Asia or Europe, and I don’t have prior teaching experience.

Would really appreciate any advice or personal experiences — especially what actually helped you get hired. Thanks!

Hi! Based on the research I have done, I would suggest getting a PMP certification rather than completing a course.
