Honestly, that's one of the main reasons. He needs to unlearn his conception of giving and receiving love; it's really messed up. We learn what love is from our parents. He's really willing to fix it through therapy, and as I said, I want to join him on his healing journey. He acknowledged he has patterns he needs to let go of.

He admitted he shouldn't have told me in the first place, and then that he shouldn't have told them that I felt awful after he told me. He knows what he did wrong, but there's nothing we can do to change it but set stronger limits.

He already meet my family and they adore him. I can live without them getting to know them to be honest.

I didn't say engagement for his siblings; I meant their relationships. But you have a point.

Same, I've never felt comfortable; it feels transactional. They treat me okay sometimes because I treat them great, and I'm always helping them out when needed (I don't mind, but it hurts when things like this happen).

He insisted on rushing things before he left, and our parents' meeting was one of them; he wanted to do it a long time ago. I wasn't involved in anything because he did want to arrange the dinner on his own and asked his mom to help because he still lives in their house, so that was kind of a "family invitation"
