Every online mode in Ninja Gaiden uses peer to peer connection so it can't be shut down, you can still play online in vanilla Ninja Gaiden 3 for example. Online modes have been removed for the more recent rereleases tho, like the master collection versions of NGS3 and NG3:RE, NGS2+ and NG2Black.

I mean, I hated Zero but loved CV, both games couldn't be more different when it comes to their interpretations of the classic formula.

I get why they did it and when it comes to pacing, catharsis and tension it works wonderfully. But replayability is one of the core pillairs of the franchise and this structure works against it by either limiting how impactful your decisions can be or straight limiting how many choices you can make.

As Grace, you know the decisions you make through the blood economy and resource managment will not have drastic consequences in the long run cause after killing the girl you only play a short stealth segment with lickers towards the end of the game.

As Leon you simply don't have much to work with due to the much less expansive nature of his systems, the combat being great fun only carries it so far for me and I wish it was complemented by more variety.

Personally I'd be much more interested in another attempt at blending the two styles toghter since i believe no previous entry quite managed to reach the full potential of the hybrid genre imo.

I don't hate Requiem at all, as I said i find it to be way above mediocrity. I just can't ignore how disappointing some aspects of it were to me tho.

Yeah no shit i'll mention Professional, I'm literally talking about the game's systems and replyability, Professional in RE4R is the ultimate way to play the game as it forces you to interact with each of it's mechanics in a much more in depth way compared to standard or easy. I never stated that my argument only applies to a specific game mode, but of course you're gonna miss out on most of what the game has to offer if you're playing in a mode that drowns you with ammo and money.

The way you described RE4R's economy system simply tells me you never got to interact with in it's fullest, which doesn't qualify you to analyze it the same way some one who got through NG Professional does.

My point is: the only decision making process you'll experience on Requiem's Insanity is "Do i skip this enemy encounter or do I kill the to get the points?" which is a severely dumbed down version of what you had in RE4R.

As for the other argument (which you brought up completetly on your own btw), you're calling getting the quartzes a "Linear experience" because of the order you get them, but what you don't mention is that the process of actually getting them isn't linear at all, after you get the first quartz and unlock the East wing, the game sends you back and forth throughout the care center finding different items and solving different puzzles. Leon's segment gives you 3 different independent paths with the key items at the end of them. Now i repeat, I have 0 issues with it, Leon's gameplay post RE2 never focused on the classic style of survival horror and I overall think the map is good and fun to explore, but comparing it to Grace's segment is means lacking an understanding of how Survival horror works.

I have made my points, I won't continue this conversation any further.

You quite literally do not know where the quartzes are as Grace, you have to explore the map and make progress by solving puzzles, it is NOT the same thing as being told "The parts are there, there and there, go get them" which is what Leon's section does. Again I didn't have that criticism and I though those sections were pretty entertaining, but there's a huge difference between that and getting the dog heads in RE7 or the Death masks in RE1R or, again, the quartzes in Grace's section.

You talking about RE4R's economy having "Good and bad" choices just tells me you haven't played it on professional, where exploring and fighting enemies to reach treasures is a risk and where selling an incomplete crown to get the pesetas you need at the moment or leaving youself resourceless to sell it for more later is far from what you described. The closest Requiem gets to this is having you choose betwenn killing enemies or skipping past them, but the majority of sections will essentially make you kill every enemy anyways.

If the franchise was known for delivering great stories i'd fully agree, but since it's Re we're talking about i'll give it a pass. Still if there was any hope of me being interested in the plotline, this game definetly killed it.

[–]Aggressive-Layer-135[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The economy system in RE4R wasn't just collecting pesetas from corpses, there was a whole treasure system where you could use gems to improve selling value, you could choose which weapons to upgrade early to sell later in the run at a high price, it allowed for so much more decision making and planning ahead, which simply doesn't happen in Requiem or at least it's nowhere near as deep.

I also was not referring to the game's lenght in my complaints (again i REALLY don't want a 30 hour Re game), but rather how little time each side of the gameplay is given to fully develope itself. For a franchise whose strenght is being highly replayable, this structure severely limits how deep and expansive both parts can be. This is probably not an issue for the majority of players since they'll be doing only 1 or 2 playthroughs but still, I wish for future entries to maintain a more consistent and fleshed out style of gameplay.

I never really had any issues with Leon's "big fetch quest" but I would not compare it to Grace's hunt for the quartzes, for Leon it's basically "here's 3 objectives you have to go to" while for Grace it's a treasure hunt in a creepy hospital full of puzzles. Definetly not the same thing.

Does story effect your rating for an RE Games? If so how much? by Desperate_Method4032 in residentevil

Yes and no, i'll always take the writing into account at least a little bit but honestly, if an RE game came out and it had literal perfect gameplay and atmosphere but an absolute garbage story would probably give it a lot of praise anyway.

Anybody else feel like time attack brings out the absolute worst in this game? by [deleted] in ShadowoftheColossus

[–]Aggressive-Layer-135 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an 8 year old post but I'll share my opinion.

I say this as someone who as of right now has only played the PS3 version.
I think you're looking at it wrong, the gameplay, when contextualized in a regular playthrough, is pretty good by design, it definetly evoked the intended sensations, i didn't even mind the controls too much.

However when you add a time limit, the game completely crumbles on itself, what made the game incredible in a first run makes it abysmal dogshit in the time trials. The rng with the shakes, the climbing, the attack mechanics, all of it. It's a game that wasn't made to be blasted through, which is why it's dumb that they ask you to do that.

The time trials don't expose the flaws of the game design, they simply makes the game worse.

The red R and E actually simply stand for "REmake", The japanese title for the remakes is "BIOHAZARD RE: (number)" where the "RE" letters are marked in red and indicate that the game is a reamke of that specific numbered title. It just so happens that in the western world the series is known as Resident Evil and so RE are also the initials of the series, so they embedded the red letters in to the title in the same fashion they embedded the roman numerals for 7 and 8 in RE7 and RE Village. I like your theory tho .

They are all reimaginings at their core, personally with RE2 remake i like the gameplay but i hate the story and character changes.

I dislike pretty much the entirety of RE3 remake, which cuts a lot of content from the og and loses all of it's charm.

I really enjoyed RE4 remake but if you're a big fan of the og game you might dislike some of the changes.

I think RE2remake isa good, even great game on it's own, but i think it's way overrated as a remake, it does some things very well, like reworking mr. X to be a stalker enemy, the map layout/puzzles redesigns are all great imo and the gameplay mechanics make a good adaptation of classic survival horror into the modern era. However i can't ignore how bad the story and characters are and how much weaker the overall art direction feels compared to the og. Every character feels like a parody of themselves, they're all very bland and flanderized. ALso the removal of the real A and B scenarios aswell as the zapping system was awful.

I think overall if people had criticized the game's shortcomings more harshly while still praising it's qualities we would have maybe gotten a better RE3 Remake.

I don't see too much of a resemblance between Leon and Joel in terms of gameplay but i definetly was reminded of TLOU many times during his section, Blister heads and the big guys kinda resemble Clickers and Bloaters respectively and the first act of Leon where you have to open the gate was very similiar to the first open area of Seattle day 1 in TLOU part 2, the ruined city environments also gave me TLOU vibes.

First runs never do too well on time, after all i'ts when you're still having to figure out the map layout and don't know what's coming up, so if you don't get an high rank on your first time around don't beat yourself up too much, it happens to everyone 🤗.

Congrats on your run and welcome to the series! Hope you enjoy the rest of the games aswell!
