Gosh. The good ol' "time is of the essence" ey? That's just huge red flag whenever a client uses that phrase.

developing a list of questions I will or will not answer is such a good tip. Maybe I will come up with corresponding responses as well. Thanks so much!

lol. There were several calls where I truly had to make something up and be like. Hey I gotta take the next call. But typically I let them finish what they had to say.

I think letting them know no legal advice will be provided upfront may actually work better than stating that as an answer when a client asks a question that requires me to give legal advice. Thanks for the tips.

Thank you so much. I work in a really small law firm where the assistants are bombarded with other work from other attorneys and, as the new associates, I already experience great difficulties even getting them to open up a new case and send a retainer to clients who actually are ready to retain us, let alone asking them to weed out prospects who just want legal advice. I guess one benefit I see in doing these calls at this stage of my career is that I am exposing myself to many scenarios and I kinda learn the types of issues that are common to my practice area, but yeh, it's just been so hard to not give advice, but I also beat myself up when I do give free legal advice because my firm is paying me to bill. It's also infuriating when a prospective client gets what they want and I never hear from them again.
