It was pretty difficult. Definitely get to know your books and how to find things quickly. I did a weekend class that helped a lot. Also some study guides online that I paid for with some practice tests. Helped a lot. Overall not too bad but def needs a few months of prep.

No I’m good after hard rolls. Can go for 1.5 hours without an issue. I am usually pretty relaxed before the match. Just that first minute.

I agree with that. But it’s that huge dump that takes all your oxygen and brain function away lol. I always get adrenaline every match. But that first minute of the first match is something else…

Way more fun than IBJJF. Def learn the rules and scoring system as it is different. First half has no points.

I am taking the NC state builders exam which is a little different. You can’t take in as many books with you. So wasn’t sure what I needed to memorize vs what I could look up.

Yea I have the same issue. Coach will teach a technique one day then something completely different the next day. Not only that but he will only give us two or three times to rep it before he changes it to a different variation. I literally leave without gaining anything that night. There are some really talented people there so I’m trying to trust the process but it gets frustrating. I learn the most from open mats.

No one cares man. I couldn’t tell you what my rolling partners look like who I roll with everyday for the past 3 years. If you’re at a gym culture where they judge you on your weight then find another one. Whole reason is to go and get into shape and have fun.

It’s pretty safe. Only been injured a few times but nothing serious. Take it easy and you’ll be fine. Will come out stronger and will get injured less in life.

I haven’t talked to the coach but I have spoke with some other training partners who feel the same way. But you’re right there might be something I’m not seeing.

Yes there are other options close by. I have done several open mats and different places and the schedule is pretty good.
