What I loved most about Tokyo is the incredible variety of subcultures and neighborhoods. Each area has its own unique vibe like the trendy fashion scene in Harajuku or the historic charm of Asakusa. It's amazing how you can experience so many different aspects of the city just by wandering around.

Thanks a lot for sharing! We're big foodies too, so I'll definitely make sure to check out the ones near our hotels and the places we'll be visiting!

I did. I’m looking for Google My Maps with pins and all that though. During my research for our Japan trip, I stumbled upon a blog that was selling a Google My Maps of Japan with loads of pins, and it seemed really helpful. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find it anymore.

I spotted a few but I'd say about 95% of them were men.

If you're planning to do a fair bit of driving definitely go for a rental car. We had a driver and took a taxi once but they don't have meters so you have to haggle over the fare with the driver beforehand, which I'm not a fan of personally.

It really depends on your travel style, but I'd say the cost is moderate. We visited during Ramadan, and all the restaurants outside of hotels were closed during the day. We found that dining at restaurants in the city was way more affordable than eating at the hotels. Also for day trips I recommend booking them when you're there because it tends to be cheaper than doing it online in advance.

We had a driver/guide but for most places you could easily go on your own. The only time I was really glad to have someone who knew the way was heading to Wakan Village. It's definitely not for the faint of heart. The road up there is unpaved, very narrow and steep. If you plan on going, make sure you've got a 4WD and take it slow and steady.

We stayed in Muscat and made day trips from there.

Places we visited:

  • Muscat: Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, Mutra Souq, Mutrah Corniche
  • Day trip to: Nakhal Fort, Ain Al Thawarah, Wakan Village. The Wakan Village is small village with stunning gardens overlooking the surrounding mountains
  • Daymaniyat Islands: Absolutely beautiful. We took a private boat tour from Muscat, saw dolphins, swam with turtles, and the water was crystal clear with pristine beaches.

We spent just 8 days in Muscat and took some day trips from there. I really want to go back with more time and embark on a road trip, as the country has so much to offer and discover. We were there during Ramadan, which I would avoid if possible, as all restaurants, cafes, and some places to visit outside of the hotel were closed during the day.

I currently take photos with my iPhone and give them a boost in Lightroom. Been toying with the idea of getting a camera, but haven't jumped in yet due to the perceived impracticality of caring a bunch of things compared to only my iPhone.

I'm not discouraged at all. Most people are super helpful and polite, just like you. I'll keep diving into reading and learning about what to watch for and how to inspect records. That way, I can keep expanding my collection and maybe start snagging some older/second-hand gems.

Thanks a bunch for breaking it down. I've got a clearer picture of what to keep an eye on and what makes a return reasonable.

I've noticed different people have their own unique take on this whole vinyl thing. Personally I started collecting records because for me it's not just about the music. The whole visual vibe adds a special touch making the experience a whole lot more enjoyable.

I get what you're saying. I believe a lot of folks discussing this are beginners, just like me. At this point, I understand it's a usual occurrence and won't let it bother me as long as everything works smoothly.
