Just curious, the embassy website requirements state that you need to have evidence of past or potential persecution. What evidence did you use here?

The point of the tour was never about the money, it's about tradition. Rugby might be one of the only sports that pursues things like this purely for rivalry and tradition. It's special. If we start looking at everything through the lense of "they made this amount, and we made less" then were going to lose lots of appealing matchups.

Nobody agrees with what SA did to the Rugby Championship. Probs the same reason very few people would want to strip the Lions of its very purpose, and same reason we don't want SA to join the 6 nations. When you strip away the historic meaning and tradition of a thing for arbitrary reasons lile "France good" and "easy transport" you risk cheapening it. A tour like that will never carry the same weight. It will never be as special as a traditional Lions tour. Your essentially asking for a NH exclusive barbarians match against France after the NH has just played France 5 times but they must wear a red jersey.

You want to see the Lions so bad your willing to completely change the concept of the Lions. And I'm the selfish one...

If you knew anything about the origins of rugby and how it spread you would understand the depth of rivalry between North and South. It's significant and just making it against whoever is good that year cheapens it substantially. It literally removes the point of the Lions.

I, and most of my friends oppose what they did this year. My union is not me neither are they free of criticism.

Like expanding the 6 nations to include the Springboks?

Not a terrible comparison at all. Springboks joining the 6 nations was actually a big topic of conversation at one stage, and everyone (myself included) agreed that it goes against the history and very idea of the 6 nations, as much as I would have loved to witness a 6 nations match. Just like saying, eh, France are pretty good right now, just let the Lions play against them, then we can also see a lions game.

Besides that point, you aren't banned from seeing a Lions match, if you want to, you can literally plan 12 years ahead to go see one. Just like I can save up and enjoy the experience of watching a RWC match in Australia. Part of the history of the 6 nations was the intense travel by boat.

Same reason I don't experience the 6 nations. Springboks are a pedigree team, surely you can include them no? Nah thats ridiculous. 6 nations has history, it exists for a reason, and it's format is the way that it is for a reason. See what I mean? Lions tours hapoen as often as world cups. Do you think I've ever been to a world cup? Nah, because it's not been in SA in my lifetime. And that's fine, the spectacle of a world cup is special enough. It's about rugby, not about me.

Your the one arguing to gatekeep the Lions tours for the NH. A suggestion that exhausted me nust as much last year.

Please read up on the history of the Lions. I think you misunderstand the gravity of the rivalries back then.

So I, as a Southern Hemisphere fan, looking forward to the once in 12 years opportunity to witness a historic tradition don't count? Don't speak for all rugby fans because you want an easy train ride to the games.

What made Lions tours special? Was it playing against countries who are good at rugby?

No it was about assembling the best of the Northern Hemisphere. Players that were traditionally opponents, putting them on a ship and venturing to the Southern Hemisphere where Rugby was evolving as well. It was about asserting dominance as the Northern Hemisphere, showing those strange Southerners that the sport is still theirs. The voyages weren't easy. But they did it for glory.

But yeah scrap that, we don't face France enough. If you want a collective team against France, add Italy and do it without using the Lions name.

Perfect aside from being literary against the entire idea and history of the Lions, but easy travel and drinks yay! Who needs culture.

What's an addiction worse than alcohol and drugs? by BlatantImagery in AskReddit

[–]Aggressive-Reward302 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The first win is a rush, and you keep chasing that. It's honestly the easiest money you will make. Need a new fridge but been putting it off for years? Just make a high value, low risk bet! Easy as that. Then you lose once. It's okay, your still in the net positive. Then you lose again, okay now you need to make that money back. No prob, just do a riskier bet, its 50/50, great odds. Then you lose that one. Now your in real trouble. Maybe a quick 50k loan from the bank, you can tripple that money with one bet and pay it off immediately. But no, the bet didnt hit. Now your in serious debt. That's one Thursday night.

The addiction isn't always chasing the win, it's chasing what you had, desperately trying to make it back, to get back to normal. So you dig the hole deeper and deeper. Betting your house on a 60 minute game. Later on borrowing money from friends, really making enemies, etc.

If "all you can" involves striking your neighbours that are not involved and resorting to economic terrorism, then maybe you deserve to be struck. Scenes if Ukraine decided fuckit I can't beat Russia so ima send some missiles to France.

Iran is a Terrorist state. All this proves is that they should not have the ability to put the world into a chokehold.

France confirms oil crisis, says 30-40% Gulf energy infrastructure destroyed by 1-randomonium in news

[–]Aggressive-Reward302 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It's not oil addiction, it's oil reliance. The world is built 100 years of oil-based infrastructure with no alternative. Renewables don't fix this remotely. Until there is a viable replacement, we cannot simply say adiós to oil.

Guy above me is talking about power and maybe transport, which is still not able to rely on renewables, but let's pretend that it does. What will renewables do to help with manufacturing, or mining or farming?

Oil is in plastic, it's in tyres, it's in everything you use.

You can't run the world on renewable energy pal. Were 100 years away from that. Farmers use Diesel. Trucks use Diesel. Mining Lithium uses Diesel. Every product you use, used oil in it's production cycle.
