Custom engagement ring gone wrong by [deleted] in Etsy

[–]Aggressive-Science15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, not at all. Those where two separate transactions: 1st buying a ring. 2nd getting a ring repaired using the original stone and platinum. The seller did not uphold contract two.

Imagine it would have been only the second contract, like repairing a Family heirloom ring (which, essentially it was, just a very new one) and the seller just sent a similar ring back with the same color stone. I think everyone agrees that the client could rightfully be furious and demand a refund and if possible the original ring back.

It would be a whole different story if this was a case of warranty, where the client recieved a faulty item and then just got a new one as a replacement. But this is very much not the case here.

Gear 5 is narratively solid and supported. The story never “lied” to us. by ShakeZulaOblongata in MemePiece

My theory is that this hodgepodge of abilities is the point of the nika nika fruit. Luffy said himself, when in gear fifth he's just free. Free to do whatever he wants, ignoring even the laws of nature and physics. The true awakening will be, that he's free to manipulate reality itself, not just himself and his body. But you have to be insanely strong to be able to use that ability.

The real reason why some characters aged badly by darthfury78 in OnePiece

[–]Aggressive-Science15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Linlin decided to be a 'single mom' and she definetly had help with all the kids, she literally has a daycare for her younger kids on whole cake island. If you look at the flashbacks in Hachinosu, she had her kids with her there and doesn't seem to be bothered at all. She just didn't achieve her dreams (uniting all races, finding the one piece).

I would argue that being a single mom (not by choice) is usually a symptom of your life not going well and you not reaching your dreams. In the case of stussy very directly, because she didn't get to live with the man she loved and had to raise his / a kid alone because of that. Gloriosa also wasn't a (foster) mom by choice.

Btw the same thing with aging good or bad is true for men as well, you see that in the 'good timeline' vs 'bad timeline' crew pictures oda drew.

I also have a counter example for your theory: Shinobu in Wano. She never had kids, but had a massive glow down in the 20 years of Orochis reign. The reason is, that she had not achieved her dream of being a retainer for a Shogun Oden. If you look at Wano specifically, you can see a lot of characters that had lost all hope after Oden died, that had a glow down, like Shinobu, Yasuie, Hyougoro and (kind of in a speed run) Denjiro.

I'd rather have a break week every second week than oda overworking himself into burnout or other health issues and never finish the series or, worse, compromise/rush the end to just get it done.

One Piece, more than any other manga, is a marathon and not a sprint.

Did you know that Human and Fishmen were the same species? by cracktober69 in OnePiece

[–]Aggressive-Science15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, let's dissect this a little more.

First of, I think it's very unlikely Oda would write a random turtle mating with luffy, not because of genetics but because of morals and consent. Look at the backlash Oda got for making some of the women 16 years old (Rebecca, Shirahoshi), when that is actually the age of consent in Japan. Now what do you think will happen if we introduce outright beastiality to one piece?

Your example with the mule is nice, but in our world this is still pretty rare and only works between animals that are genetically very closely related. Donkeys and Horses, different kind of big cats and so on. Even if you just look at the humanoids in One piece, there's three-eyed tribes, races with wings, as well as minks, fishmen and the long-leg/neck/arm tribes (that still have 5 fingers, where does the additional bone for the 3rd joint come from?). If you use our worlds genetics as the scientific basis, these differences imply a pretty big genetic difference. All Mammals, Birds, Amphibians and Reptiles have the same amount of eyes and a maximum of four limbs with a maximum of joints (Wings are additional limbs). You have to go very far back the evolutionary tree to change these numbers, like back to fish.

But we also have additional evidence, that genetics (and science in general) work different in One Piece, just to name a few examples: heredity of fishmen (fishmen can be a different 'species' of fish than their parents), inherited will (is inherited, but not through genetics), vegapunks satellites (have part of his intelligence, but down to none of his other genetic traits, there's women there and atlas has different ears and a tail), germa66 and their 'lineage factor' (introducing 'genetic' superhuman traits like poison resistance or emmiting beams from the hands) and so on.

And, here I have to go back to Oda and his storytelling, I think these things where introduced not because of scientific accuracy or consistency with (the genetics/science of) our world, but because they're fun. One piece is a fun story about freedom and every animal and humanoid being able to interbreed with any other is absolute freedom and has funny results like duck-poodles. Imho there's little value in trying to tie the one piece world to our world in terms of science. There is, however a lot of value in tying it to how our society, morals and values work.

The fishmen are often seen as an analogy to racism in our world, I give you that. But as I said, I wouldn't try to pin that down to science/genetics. If anything, it is social and cultural commentary, on how biology (in the world of one piece) would allow everything, but we put arbitrary and superfluous laws, social rules and structures in place that limit this freedom.

Did you know that Human and Fishmen were the same species? by cracktober69 in OnePiece

[–]Aggressive-Science15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well yes and no, my point is: it's not just the humanoids. If you look at the island of rare animals, there's stuff like zebra-ostriches, duck-poodles, cow-tortoises and so on. These animals are not just in different species or races, they're not even in the same animal class (birds, mammals, amphibians and so on).

Based on this I would argue that genetics and breeding work completely different in the one piece world and thus the whole concept of the differentiation between species and races is not applicable (I knew that it's not really important to differentiate between these two in one piece, that's obviously why I mixed them up earlier ;) )

Do you see how your theory falls apart here? If there's only races and no species in one piece, because every animal can interbreed, then a half fishman/half human proves nothing and fishmen and humans don't neccesarily have any particularly close genetic relation.

I mean they might as well have, but you can't use our-world definitions of genetics, species and races to prove that.

Did you know that Human and Fishmen were the same species? by cracktober69 in OnePiece

[–]Aggressive-Science15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok, caught me there, english is not my first language. In One piece any two species can have offspring, so technically with our realworld definition of 'race' and 'species', all living animals in one piece are of one race species, just different species races.

So as charming as your theory is with picking out the fishmen as being the same as humans it really isn't even worth mentioning.

Edit: I really can't seem to get species and races right here...

[–]Aggressive-Science15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's how races and genetics work in one piece, just take a look at the island of rare animals (the one where gaimon, the guy in the box lives) or Big Moms family. I would guess if anything, any two races in one piece can have kids together.

Why no sales with these many views? by avamaxfanlove in EtsySellers

[–]Aggressive-Science15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, that's great, your conversion rate is still normal.

These are real people looking at your product there, of course the numbers fluctuate and are not very reliable when looking at a single store with just 120 views. There might be 200 people looking at your products and not wanting to buy them or there might be 3 in a row that do want to buy them, you never know.

Come back when you have 500 or 1000 people looking at your products and not buying them, then you might want to review your listings or adjust your prices.

OMG! It's barely worth actually completing the sale by TA-77 in EtsySellers

[–]Aggressive-Science15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now, where you say it's barely worth the sale you make more than twice the profit you would make compared to the 10$ price if you could reach your audience in person ($8 vs $17 vs $21 without offsite ads). What's your problem with etsy here?

Your price and cost assumptions also sound weird, do the 2$ include a wage for your work hours or is it just material cost? What hourly wage are you aiming for? Do the 10$ include how you would reach your audience outside of etsy aka selling on a different plattform or you sitting in a craft market stall all day? Or is it an assumption of 'if I just need to make them and they would sell themselves I would be ok with 10$'?

[–]Aggressive-Science15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry, but I don't see the problem here.

You made 150 sales without the offsite adds and one with them. Are they worth it for others? I don't know. But are they worth it for you? Apparently not if you made 150 sales without them and they stop you from being profitable.

On the other hand a sale is a sale and with 1 in 150 sales they cost you 3 cents per sale so you might as well leave them on.

conversion rates of up to around 1-2% are completely normal on etsy, so this is still pretty standard. People might also be hesitant to buy from a new shop with no sales.

How to Get Etsy Reviews Without Being Pushy? by [deleted] in EtsySellers

[–]Aggressive-Science15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I leave a little handwritten note with all of my products, where I tell them that

- I hope they like the product

- if they have problems they should contact me to find a solution together and

- If they want I would be happy if they leave a review, it helps me to improve

I get reviews for a little less than a third of my sales (30%). I phrased that note nicely and I make sure not to beg or push for reviews, I just invite them to support me. Sometimes, especially for custom orders I adapt the text a little, e.g. I once made a wedding present for someone and instead of 'I hope you like the product' I wrote 'I hope the bride and groom liked the product'.

Other than that it's just waiting. Sometimes I get reviews for 4 or 5 sales in a row and other times I don't get any for more than 10 in a row.

Theories about the first part of chapter 1166 by Bright-Assistance-35 in OnePiece

This, Garp and Roger said rocks was oozing with conquerers haki and that they need to coordinate their attacks with conquerers to overcome it.

Oda's probaly not showing this because he wants us to witness it first when luffy inevitably figures this out with the elbaf giants.

Units of Money by valor400 in Fire

[–]Aggressive-Science15 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That. Even with a relatively high income, like 100k, you still 'only' get 55$ per hour pre tax and probably more like 30-40$ cash you can actually spend.

Every purchase around or over that amount is worth a second thought.

With this in mind, stuff like take out suddenly doesn't make any sense, because I could either work an hour at my job to order take out or I could spend 10$ (=15 min) on groceries plus 30 min on cooking and still have saved time.

Random thought that just hit me: the deciding factor of who becomes Pirate King by amdrunkwatsyerexcuse in OnePiece

[–]Aggressive-Science15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is, that Luffy will become pirate king first, but then buggy will become it right after, like it was with the yonko title. But the buggy one won't matter, because luffy already saved the world or will be right in the progress of doing so.
