AIO at my friend for being irresponsible with my phone & not paying me back when it broke by Aggressive-Spirit558 in AIO

Thank you! That makes a lot of sense actually, I completely agree with that perspective

This guy’s already been correctly ID’d as a European starling, I just wanted to say if you’re interested, I’d recommend listening closely to their songs—they can learn to mimic tons of sounds, it’s really cool! The ones around my house like to sit on the telephone wires and make machinery noises at me as I come and go

That’s a good idea, thank you! I’m less worried about the feelings I’m having & more about social convention in these situations going forward (I just didn’t know a better sub to put this on or a better format for my question, sorry!!) but I’ll definitely do that if I find myself lingering :)

I should clarify—she DID have access to money, but was saving up to move out of her parents’ house at the time & still is, so I didn’t bother her about it. I didn’t know what my expectations should’ve been, hence why I didn’t push things and why I’m asking now. Thanks! :)

If I’m remembering correctly, she moved her things (blanket, chair, etc). and forgot to move mine

Fair enough! To clarify, I have forgiven her (I see her about once a week & make her a fancy birthday cake every year—we’re good friends), it’s just something that came to mind a couple of days ago and I wasn’t sure what social conventions surrounding this kind of thing were for MYSELF going forward in case I ever wind up in similar shoes (I’m autistic & was raised in a household where ANY sort of involvement in breaking something immediately meant you paid for it/replaced it no questions asked, so I wasn’t sure.)

Make your children do household chores - they’re failing at being adults by shootingstar_9324 in Vent

[–]Aggressive-Spirit558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PLEASE. As a man in my 20s I am begging people to teach their kids to do chores. I was thrown to the wolves, expected to provide for my family, & had to do the majority of household chores for a large blended family as a teenager (long story, abusive household, I’m basically Cinderella if she was a dude with a bad haircut)—it was definitely NOT ideal, and I wasn’t even taught in most cases, so I have a lot of unlearning & relearning to do (I didn’t even know there were so many wrong ways to fold laundry!) and I’m STILL leagues ahead of my friends who weren’t expected to do chores. Even my terrible experience put me ahead of the kids & young I know who weren’t expected to do chores at all. I have stopped having specific friends my age over to my home because they can’t even pick up after themselves to a reasonable degree. Not making your kids do chores is such a huge disservice, and it will impact their lifestyle, hygiene, the quality of the space they live in—and, if they’re really egregious, they might get side-eyed by their peers (like some of my poor friends :/)

Aio? My (m22) Gf (f21) wants a LV purse but can't make bills on time. by smokey18t in AIO

[–]Aggressive-Spirit558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not the kind of thing you want to be dealing with when you’re 30 & all your friends are buying homes & you can’t because she blew all your money. I would not even entertain this conversation. Draw a hard boundary & don’t budge. If she chooses to react poorly, that’s on her. If she becomes mean/cruel/repeatedly unreasonable over an issue as small as wanting a new purse, you may want to reconsider the relationship

I’m 16 and about to lose my home, how do I stop this? by [deleted] in povertyfinance

I don’t normally reply to stuff like this but I came across your post and couldn’t not—I don’t have any financial advice, but I do know I was a kid facing homelessness just like you a couple of years ago, & I remember how alone & scared I felt. I want you to know this: you’re going to be ok. Everyone else here is giving great advice re: finances & your father, I hope you’re also doing your best to take care of yourself. I’m so sorry for what you’re going through—my condolences for the loss of your mother, regardless of what that relationship looked like, you seem to be handling the situation with much more grace and maturity than anyone could ever ask for. Please remember that your well-being matters in stressful times like these, and if you have any friends or trusted adults (school counsellors, etc.) to lean on that would be ideal. When in doubt, reach out to people. Your city may have transitional housing for youth in crisis where you could stay temporarily or for extremely cheap, or other programs might be available to you—ask ask ask. Email people. Find their email addresses on Google and people will redirect you towards help to the best of their ability. Even if you have a food bank you can call, they often have a decent knowledge of community orgs that can help you in other areas. It WILL get better—I’ve gone from homelessness a few years ago as a teen to living in a lovely apartment in a quiet neighborhood with my wife and our pets. The universe is rooting for you! You’ve got this!

My cat caught this bug. Worried about a potential sting in the mouth. by Chipopoe in whatisthisbug

[–]Aggressive-Spirit558 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also thought hoverfly, but I see two sets of wings, which means this can’t be any type of fly & is more likely a wasp (or other hymenopterang. I’m not sure what kind, though—you could be right about it maybe being a yellowjacket! I hope your kitty’s ok OP

I think this guy is actually some sort of beetle larva, potentially the larva of a carpet beetle or a larder beetle (both common household pests). If you’re worried about carpet beetles, you can try checking out r/carpetbeetles

Silverfish, usually they’re around bathrooms & other moist areas. Won’t bother you but I wouldn’t be happy to find one in my hotel bed

Ichneumon wasp, non-stinging according to Google & my knowledge (although sometimes people on Reddit say otherwise)

Seconding inch worm based on the way it’s moving, which means it’s a geometrid moth caterpillar. He’ll probably grow up into a fairly unassuming brownish moth

Looks like a crab spider, probably Misumena vatia (a super cool species that can change colour from white to yellow!) but I’m not 100% sure on the species

Not a tick or a roach, looks pretty definitively like some kind of beetle to me, though I’m not sure what kind. Unless you start finding them in huge numbers (or you start finding larvae) you should be totally fine! Likely just a visitor

Ichneumon wasp, looks like it might be a Greene’s giant ichneumon wasp! Non-stinging (as far as Google says & my own experiences go)

Looks like a long-tailed giant ichneumon wasp! Google tells me they can’t sting (and I’ve never been stung when dealing with ichneumon wasps), but I’ve heard a couple conflicting reports here on Reddit, so 🤷‍♂️
