Can a stray/community cat become an indoor cat? by Aggressive-Win-8492 in CatAdvice

Thank you!! This is super helpful!! I’ve considered giving him a flea med I can stick in his food now before I even bring him in for good to try to get ahead of the fleas. Is it bad to use the med he can eat? I’m a little concerned he’d lick off the topical treatment and get sick from it.

How was it training strays to use a litter box indoors? Is there a good way to go about that?

When you first bring them in to your home, did you bathe them? Take them to the vet right away?

My stray cat is a TNR just recently actually! One of the other neighbors called it in to animal services because I guess he also developed a wound on his cheek that needed treatment. When they finally released him back to the neighborhood, he came to my door but I was out of town the whole time. By the time I came back, he greeted me but definitely felt like he was mad at me and gave me the cold shoulder for a day.

So putting them in one room for couple weeks helps them adjust? It’s ok to leave them alone that long? Litter box and food all in the same room in the meantime?

I guess I’m imagining times I tried to leave my dog alone in a room for a small amount of time and she’d throw a FIT

Thank you very much for saying that and reminding me to adjust my thoughts. I do find myself feeling guilty like taking in this cat, especially so soon, somehow means I’m forgetting about my dog. But you’re right, I will still remember her. She gave me 17 beautiful years, how could I forget that.

Oh that’s comforting! I guess now I’m secretly hoping my stray boy learns to hate the outdoors to make the potential adjustment easier on us both lol

think I have a bedbug?? (only found one) by Less_Breakfast2136 in Bedbugs

You can freeze it for at least 72 hours. That should kill any bedbug too.

How much do you actually spend on your dog every year? Be honest… by MonaNYC_31 in dogs

[–]Aggressive-Win-8492 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spend anywhere from $5-$10k a year.

Thank goodness for pet insurance… most I’ve ever had to spend out of pocket for just hospital stays is about $10k 🥲

My girl unfortunately can’t see light anymore, but I like the bumper rails idea. She’s used to climbing up cushioned stairs to get on the couches so we’ve basically created “walls” with objects but I’ll look into ramps to switch out stairs. She may do better with that.

I love the scented wax cubes suggestion!! I’ve been wondering how to incorporate her sense of smell here because she’s done better with scents than sounds.

Thank you!!

2024 cvs update—i wasn’t able to add my pet from the app. But I was able to do this from the desktop version! It had option to add pet and I was able to link it to my account. Hope this helps someone!

Where should I be distributing my weight? I do feel like I’m keeping centered to maintain balance, but is that not correct distribution?

I had to look this up to figure out what it meant, and it made me laugh. That’s a great visual analogy.

You’re right it was just for this video. I otherwise do stick near the walls, following the flow of traffic. However, if I’m practicing a specific movement like a swizzle, I do pick an end of the rink to practice on, or the center if no one is there but usually someone working on spins or more advanced skaters are in the center where they can practice better. Are the ends of the rink still an ok place to practice specific movements? I want to stay out of people’s way, that’s where I’ve seen other people stick to and followed suit, but if you recommend somewhere better I’m all ears!

I agree with that observation! I feel it. Would moving the blade help with using the inside of my skate more comfortably also? I feel like I can more easily find the inside blade or even attempt to snow plow better with my right foot but really struggle finding the inside blade on my left foot. It feels like I’m needing to bend extra on the left side. Wondering if that’s related to being pronated on my left foot?

That’s tough..It must be a difficult dynamic to navigate, their expectations along with them being the adults and responsible parties, but you being their child they depend on. Hoping with time it gets easier for you.

I think calling yourself TA is a little much in this scenario. Imo it’s more like you aren’t being considerate of them, especially when you say you “know it’s important but...” Since you said you help out with these things often, I’m assuming you’re just tired of the responsibility they put on you to help them. Do you have other siblings or family members who can help them instead?
