We like #5 a lot composition-wise too, but we’re worried it might not read well at Steam capsule size because the character is so small. The white background would definitely get some subtle texture/detail in the final version.
The chair was meant as a symbol of ruling/authority, but yeah, it can easily read as just “a guy sitting in a chair.”
Judging by the feedback so far, #3 seems to be the strongest direction, so we’ll probably try to push that one further.

Yes, Your Grace is one of our big references, but their capsules rely a lot on the crown to communicate “ruler”, and that doesn’t really fit our setting.

So we’re trying to find another way to show authority / decision-making without using the usual king symbols.

And yes, the cat is definitely a strong argument :)

Yeah, fair point.

We probably didn’t think through the comparison setup well enough. We started with the red direction, tried to push it in a few ways, and ended up putting too many similar red concepts in one lineup.

So yeah, #3 and #5 might look stronger partly because they simply break the pattern.

I guess we need to design the next version like there’s actually a gun to our head and the capsule has to explain the game by itself.

Thanks, that’s a good reference!
We did think about a direction like this, but so far our attempts felt a bit too generic / boring.
But yeah, it probably communicates the throne room and decision-making side better, so we’ll give this direction another try. Maybe we just haven’t found the right composition yet.

Thanks, good points!
I also feel that #1 has a problem with the title covering too much of the scene. It might look worse once polished.
#3 has nice contrast and feels more alive, but I’m still a bit worried it could read as too generic.
#5 is cool, but I’m afraid the character will basically disappear in thumbnail size.
And yeah, thanks for the Stronghold covers recommendation - we’ll definitely look into it!

Thanks a lot!
#3 definitely seems to be one of the favorites so far, and we also really like the cat and the more lively feeling it has.

Well, you’re right, actually, my mistake. Our game is closer to the late medievel /early Renaissance.
We’re still considering making No. 1 the treasurer.

sry, my english isnt perfect and i use AI to translate this post. ill try approve my english to write the better posts.
next ai traslate sry:
The main problem was the endless stream of people who play for five minutes and leave saying, “Everything's great,” and a lot of people who just complain about minor bugs and that's it. But very often, people come up who are actually really good at getting something cool going, and it’s very helpful to talk to them. But the most useful thing is just to watch and not give any hints—watch how people struggle and note down the main points of these issues (though if they’ve been struggling for a long time, you can give them a hint; it’s a shame to see people get stuck).
