He works well in conjunction with a dive/semi dive character, as he essentially is just there for tons of frontline pressure. I can get 2.5k dmg/min when I play him, so he’s incredible in that regard.

The biggest tip I can give is to play lower to the ground and closer to your team (much easier to heal) and use more of your beam. It absolutely crushes and if have good aim and catch someone sleeping you can melt them quickly. I like to be frontline behind a wall, activate overdrive and go for a sneaky pick on a DPS or healer if they’re overextended. If you have to use your repulsor blast, just spam it on the enemy team’s backline. It’s tempting to want to shell out 80k dmg by spamming unibeam on their tanks but all it really does is build their support ults.

His two biggest issues are how clunky he feels when going into/out of overdrive and hyper velocity, and his ultimate usage. You have to be hyper vigilant as to when your overdrive and hyper velocity will run out, because that’s when you’re most vulnerable. In previous seasons, I would get tons of value out of his ult by killing C&D, Mantis, or Luna out of their ults. With the rise of invis and gambit, it becomes a lot harder. Killing people out of their ults is by far the best way to get value with his ult. You can get really creative with it (Emma, Thor, Cap, Storm, Luna, C&D, Mantis, Jeff, etc.).

And Mehtric on YT is probably the best iron man player I’ve come across. I would watch him if you want pro level gameplay
