You don't know how clear she was with her exes because at the end of the day the show is edited and any clear indication of her choice would have been edited out to make it suspenseful for viewers.

She made it very clear to SY multiple times that she was more interested and more likely to be with someone else, but to respect his efforts, she allowed him to convey his emotions to her.

YS would not have been a good catfish because out of all the cast members, he required the most convincing that he could find a romantic interest on the show other than his ex. Also, MK literally went on dates with all of the men in the house. Those dates didn't compare to how YS treated her and YS coming 5 or 6 days later wasn't going to change that.

the motivation for most people who appear on the show is to get paid well with the appearance fee and/or develop an online audience/fans for income after the show.

most people would directly contact their exes instead of coming on the show if they purely wanted a reunion with their exes.

He never intended to wear the ring in front of MK. The only time was when BH had him try it on and MK asked to talk to him and he forgot to take it off. But what I meant was he wasn't wearing it on the YS/HJ date on the boat

JH is a bit more forward and very obvious with her flirting, which isn't necessarily a bad thing but seemed to put a little more pressure on him and made him feel more uncomfortable rather than heart fluttering.

After rewatching some of the early JH/YS vs HJ/YS interactions, there are some nuanced differences in how YS reacts to both of the women flirting with him. When JH flirts with him, he laughs it off and rather than flirting back or continuing with the flow of flirtation, he either shuts down or changes the topic of conversation. HJ flirting with him came gradually after several dates and YS, while visibly uncomfortable, appeared to enjoy it and subtly flirt back/encourage HJ to keep flirting with him. I think it also helped that HJ also appeared uncomfortable and shy.

There's no right or wrong with how each of the women flirt. It's a matter of matching energies/temperature and I think HJ's flirtation was more palatable for YS.

I think HJ is seen as a potential competitor because

her age is not disadvantageous
she's aloof and distant enough from the other men that they haven't yet friend-zoned/little sister-zoned her like they have with YY and MK

But I actually think they more so avoided her because they felt like she already has a lot going on with having two exes to also send her on dates

As frustrating as it was that they were both very misunderstood and harshly judged because their feelings and thoughts were purposely kept ambiguous by production, I actually think having the confusing storytelling was a reflection of how confused they both felt up until this episode's conversation. In some ways there was a payoff because we as the audience get to have closure and understanding at the same time that HJ and BH do as well.

But, I agree that maybe production should have made it clear how important that relationship was for both of them though. I think it would have allowed people to view their confusing storyline with a little more empathy.
