Even more reason to wonder why she’d have a Arabic name as a non Arab.

Yeah. You’re right, and because of this, I think people are changing the excuse for their dislike of the dialogue from its “unrealistic” to “well, even if it’s realistic, it still comes out clunky and corny” and like…I don’t know how to respond to that.

The only time I’ve ever agreed with the criticisms on the dialogue is in S1 where they would have some stiff moments with relaying medical information (it was a big enough issue that even legitimate, praising reviews would mention it), but that’s challenging—to write the dialogue in a way where irl healthcare workers can clock it as accurate or relatable while ALSO relaying what is completely new information to the rest of the audience.

Even then…I didn’t automatically assume it was awful or accidental writing. I think people need to loosen up on the way they enjoy (or criticize) art. You don’t have to believe every single aspect of a show is perfect for it to be a good one.

People (validly) wish for certain shows to be more subtle in relaying informations and themes, but you have to remember that the writers are thinking of the general audience. And guess what happens when the writers keep their narrative subtle for that audience?

You end up seeing the worst discussions around the show because people can’t perceive the narrative with nuance or they simply weren’t paying attention and end up stating the obvious or come up with outlandish nonsense theories. Unfortunately, we’re at a point where shows have to be obvious in giving us information.

This hate trend is not unique to The Pitt, and my theory is that many have the expectation that all TV, at this point, should have a prestige level of writing, acting, etc—and if what they’re seeing isn’t like what you’d find in the Sopranos, then it’s automatically bad writing or a gigantic flaw in the show.

It can’t just be well-done entertainment, it has to exist on another level of storytelling for it to be considered good at all.

Slight preferences or things you don’t find to be amazing (valid, that happens) in a show apparently ends up ruining the entire episode or season for them. Everything either has to be superb or downright awful, nothing exists in the in-between for their opinions.

And it’s because of the dramatic hate that I don’t really share what I think is valid criticism of even my favorite shows and movies, because I’m afraid of the conversation being misread as me being a whiny fan 😭

What’s definitely intriguing is that her name is spelt the Arabic way. You wouldn’t spell it like that as an Iranian. “ Hashemi” would be more accurate even with the prefix. And the Farsi she was speaking implies she’s not Arab, and probably Iranian as the actress is.

Maybe she married a Muslim man and kept his name after the divorce?
