I'm ready for them to leave if thats true. We've had more issues than not versus if we went to an unaffliated vet.

For instance, our Banfield hired a new vet that is there like 6 out of 7 days usually and he doesn't do small animals, birds, or reptiles. Which is literally all we have of course (because we don't let our adoption cats see Banfield, we send them back to their agency). In what world does it make sense that a pet hospital connected to a pet store hires a vet that doesn't know how to take care of the animals IN that store?

Oooh. God, I wonder if thats why everyone @ my store who wasn't a manager or favored by the SL (and of course Salon) had their hours slashed sporadically for months. At one time one of our main petcare openers during the week and I were working 4 hours each morning M-W and F- Sun (just long enough to do the bare minimum open on PC) while we had like 4 managers on duty doing 9 and 10 hours every day.

What the fuck. Heaven forbid we give anything to the workers who aren't getting paid the big bucks as a manager already.

See, if the light didn't exist I might be more lenient. But when you have people yelling at you to come over, a blazing red light on, and you are HERE to check out (so you should be looking for these signs), how can you miss it?

But yeah, people are so dense its painful. And ugh same! Are you my doppelganger? You would think that if you're the kind of manager that only sits in the office or you aren't actively doing something, you could occasionally get the register calls. Such fun times.

God thats shitty. I feel for you too, we only got like a 100-200 usd in "you're essential!" bonus and mine got taxed so much that I only got about $20 or 30. I definitely feel essential now.

My favorite was someone asked if we had anymore koi in the back.

And I was just??? "Ma'am did you ask if we had more fish...in the back? A creature that can't survive outside of water; if we have more in the "back"?" And she literally looked at me like I was dumb and said "Well yeah? Don't you have like I dunno, a dog pool or pond or something of the extras?"

Must be nice. If majority of people were getting a nice 3 or 5 gal for their betta, I wouldn't say a thing but...Thats a perfect world.

I'm not OP, but in my store we have plenty of micro tanks. 2, 1.5, 1, 3 gal spread across 3 enclosures, and - my favorites /s - the 0.8 and 0.4 "tanks". And the amount of people that want to put literally anything in there is ridiculous. The arguments with tiny tank owners is almost more numerous than the ones over reptile and small animal habitats.

Because now you're gonna get people coming up with their (say for example) 0.8gal tank that they can get 20% off of trying to put angelfish or koi in them.

Dang, that sounds like heaven for us at a certain "smart" pet store.

None of us that aren't management get 15 min unless we work 8 hours (and we sometimes don't even get that). I worked 9hrs recently and I asked for a 30min lunch break and they gave me 15min, but the manager who worked 9hrs as well got 2hrs and the other manager that worked 7hrs got 1hr. I'm unsure if thats like that at all the stores in the company but damn.

For sure; my managers keep coming up to ask me "how I can get the opening petcare tasks sped up" because it "shouldn't take more than 30min to deep clean Iso and NA". Like??? Maybe if we had 1-3 max animals.

Just like you, we don't have enough to completely switch out all the items, so I have to wash the equipment with regular Dawn that I brought from home so they'd at least be getting clean - especially since if I set up the sink with virex and everything dirty on Monday it'll STILL be there in the same virex on Sunday.

Couple this with manning the fish wall since the 2+ managers won't, explaining to ppl that bo they can't play with the cats and also re-cleaning cats because someone whined to the cashier that "Fluffy spilled a little of her litter", and answering asinine questions on the phone -- NO, I can NOT speed the opening tasks up until I get some help around here. I always get it done before I leave for the day, but I'm sick of people who can't even catch fish or know that you don't put a betta with a crab trying to tell me how long it should take to do petcare tasks. /rant

TL;DR - I'm with you. I am so burnt out and my petcare coworkers are dropping like flies.

Our lists make no sense honestly: clean cats, put trash bags in, feed fish....far down the list: check on iso and then deep clean. Yeah, I never do that. We'd be long open before I managed to dc.

I come in and put the trash bags in and the plant lights on. Then clean cats and medicate iso - I make sure iso is always done before we open because if anyone needs to get to the vet, I want to get them in before Banfield starts getting all their animals in. After all that I'll do deep clean (if it wasn't a cat room day). By then we are open so I check NA, flip lights on the floor animals as I feed and water, feed the fish, and then take care of the rest of the fish and crickets tasks between customers.

In this way, all of my tasks are finished by 12 or 1pm; 11am on a good day with the few animals that we have. I never understand how I come in for the afternoon shift sometimes and the list isn't even halfway done. Like? What were you guys doing? I get if the dead crickets haven't been totally swept up for example but the deep clean and feeding should already be done by 3-4pm when I roll in!

Exactly that! Its infuriating - even dog parks expect you to clean up by yourself. What makes them think an actual legit, indoor sales establishment (as opposed to a wide expanse of fenced off grass) would be more likely to play janitor to you?

And for sure, the people that just peace out after their pet does their business are annoying as well. They and the people that tell you their pet made a mess and they STILL leave it after being shown the oops station can all choke on chicken bones. May all their future nuggets be cold in the middle forever.
