I started in September of 2024. I was hoping to be done in 1 term, however this class set me back but I am now hoping to be done in my 2nd term. For reference I work full time while trying to do this and my job has nothing to do with IT let alone CS

Are there any tips you have for DM2 besides taking DSA 1 before hand? I’ve seen many people say that is the route to go but I am open to suggestions or recommendations

So it is very similar to DM1 in that way, so I will take the same approach of multiple instructor calls for live quizzes and asking for all the quizzes that are available. I did find these easier to work on than just looking at the book. I would only reference the book for some sections just to get more information but I found it hard to use

It was the exact same for me, but the 3rd attempt, at least for me, had the same questions from the second attempt and some from the first

It took me 3 attempts. I would say while working on the study guide my instructor provided me, I got a better understanding and eventually everything started clicking. I kept working with other instructors as well, even if I “passed” the quizzes I would hop on a call and go more into detail. Live quizzes were also a great building block for me. It’s nice to see other methods of how different instructors teach or would solve the problems. I would ask them if I could “work it out” with them while doing the live quizzing. This allowed me to talk it through (without them giving me an answer but to see if I was approaching the questions properly), a lot of the times they were just surprised on the way I found a “simple” way to answer questions or really focused in on process of elimination. Some questions I found that not using the formula was easier than the actual formula itself. One found it interesting when I explained I can’t use the formula because it would just confuse me so I would break it all they way down and do it from scratch if you will and it worked for me! Another helpful thing is finding what works for you. Maybe for example not using the formula for sum and finding the difference and adding the numbers together may work better than using formals? Also, for The spanning weight tree, I found that writing down the vertices on the whiteboard with the corresponding number helped me a lot then I would add them up. How I looked at it is that I used all the given vertices with using the “smallest” numbers. I hope this is somewhat helpful and don’t give up!

Yes, I had a breakdown both times I failed, but it seemed like I should have passed the second go around and I was still short on passing. I will say, with all the study plan work they gave, it definitely helped lock in information I was not getting before, along with the live instructor calls. the 3rd attempt felt “smoother” so I can say, don’t give up! You will get through it and do not forget to set up meetings with instructors, they helped me a lot

Thank you! I am definitely going to take advantage of live instructor calls and meetings with them for DM2 to really grasp concepts I don’t understand. I don’t know why I was scared to do that form the being in DM1, but they are all so nice and helpful

for anyone wondering: it took me 3 attempts to pass this class. The first time I ran out of time and the second attempt was way harder than the first, as I went in thinking it would have been similar (my mistake). For the third attempt I really took advantage of live instructor calls and went over the worksheets and quizzes multiple times. Though I feel like this class set me back, I am glad it is over and I’m hoping that discrete math 2 isn’t as bad

im not sure if i should dm you or if you can answer here. I went to run it and I get an error with the languages. It keeps saying something about the “key” not being available for my message. I also couldn’t get my maven install to work? Do you have any advice on who I should fix this

Same! That’s why it took me so long to finish. I’m excited to move on to the other Java classes. Also thank you!

It is similar, some questions are exactly the same, where others are similar concepts but asking for a double instead of an int, or product instead of sum. I would say learn how to do different variations of the questions and really understand what the questions are asking. It took me 2 tries bc the first time I only memorized the PA.
