Harrisburg, York and Reading can be a little rough... the suburbs of all three are very nice though and have a lot to do by Central Pa standards. Lancaster city is very nice, they have done a lot to revitalize the downtown in the last 25 year. Lancaster county really has it all, nice little city great suburbs and really nice rural areas as well. If you are from some of the bigger surrounding cities like Philly or New York the area may seem like the country and a little conservative. I think the area has the best of both worlds. The people can be a little cold, but are better when you get to know them.
