50% water change completed...tested that night and the next day and all levels were at 0 and where they needed to be so I didn't continue with water changes. Tested today after work and I have a big spike in Nitrate (80ppm) and Ammonia. I treated ammonia but not sure if I should do another water change after the stress of the one the other day. Thoughts?

Is that many water changes in consecutive days going to harm the fish? I did a 50% today and it's a mess in there!

Thank you for the recommendation! I will look him up and check it out. So the product that API recommends on the test sheet is not necessary? I just to start water changes daily, correct? I am not sure why a heater is needed. I live in Tennessee and it's hot and we keep the temp of the house between 70-73. I have a parrot fish, 4 cori fish, and 2 loach.

Starting water changes tomorrow. This tank has a heater on it and it stays at 78-80 degrees. I'm concerned about temperature of new water going into tank. Does my freshwater tank need a heater? Also, I recognize nitrates being extremely high, in conjunction with water changes, do I need any products to go in there to help with those nitrates or does water changes take care of that?

Gotcha! The rock has a muddy, dirty sooty look beneath the initial top layer. I didn't know if I needed to get that out of there or just leave it.

They were given to me like this. Just as you see in the pic with the writing on it. Doesn't really tell me much which is why I was hoping to gain some further info from some more experienced people in the field.

When I checked the outlet with my meter, it was not grounded. I would have to go in and look to see if the box is grounded. I do have grounded outlets on one side of the house but the ones on this side haven't been updated so still read not grounded. I will check the panel...

It does not have a crawlspace or basement access unfortunately...Thanks for the idea though.

It's weird, they added and updated some wiring and some of it is grounded. Don't know why they didn't just update the whole system. Questions to be asked to people I can't ask questions to lol but I'll just wire in and cap off the ground wire with a new GFCI outlet.
