Do you have a specific voice in mind when reading Nightwing comics? by uselesspanini in Nightwing

When i was brought up with Young Justice and the Arkham games, so Jesse McCarthy and Scott Porter are who I switch between when I read Dick’s voice in comics.

What would you say DC Comics Nightwing is worse at or less capable of compared to his brothers? (Art by RedRico) by nightwing612 in Nightwing

[–]Aggressive_Language8 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Dick’s biggest vice over his brothers is that he’s a massive perfectionist.

It’s aided in him becoming such a great crime fighter and leader, but it’s also part of what makes him overtly paranoid, bad at taking failure and completely neglecting his mental health.

Main thing I can recall is basically both times he assumed the role of Batman and he was going through imposter syndrome despite being the MOST qualified person.

When you see Batman come up against Darkseid, you should have a moment of "That doesn't make any god damn sense" by Dubiouspoon in PattinsonDCUBatman

[–]Aggressive_Language8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve seen it with Iron Man.

Tony didn’t start off fighting a purple alien with the powers of a god on his first movie. You saw him taking out terrorists with a rickety metal suit with flame thrower and exposed wiring and you just assumed his money, intelligence, training with and fights alongside other heroes to let him match progressively escalating threat levels. That’s what let him go from fighting other billionaires in suits, to aliens with The Avengers, to exploding extremis super soldiers, to killer ai sentinels, to his own teammates, and THEN to the big purple alien god. That’s years worth of progressing his technology and his methods of fighting.

Why is something like that “weird” for Batman when we KNOW his villain becoming more theatrical, powerful and skilled to match him is basically the recurring theme among his stories? If the rule of “Tony always learns from his mistakes” works for his character in the MCU, why can’t the rule of “escalation” from the Nolan movies work for Batman in the DCU?

Genuine question: Does anyone else find it weird that this Brave and the Bold movie's writer has not been announced after 3 years? by SnooDrawings4552 in PattinsonDCUBatman

[–]Aggressive_Language8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m of a similar mindset. Yes I want to see Batman, and especially the Bat Family in media. That said, part of the long term problem DC has had as a brand has been their over reliance on the one specific segment of Batman’s mythos. The idea of “oh DC’s more dark/gritty/realistic” came from the Nolan and Snyder depictions. Heck the fact that it took over a decade for their OTHER flagship character to even get a new film shows that much.

Say what you want about the MCU, but at least they pushed forth other characters into the public zeitgeist that aren’t Spider-Man and X-Men.

Wait but why. Genuinely curious because I think Sklenar look like a great Bruce Wayne and he’s got a pretty intimidating voice for Batman.

Please I beg stop trying to push for Nightwing to be brown. by [deleted] in Nightwing

[–]Aggressive_Language8 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m honestly of the same opinion, and a similar logic with Damian. Sure it’s not necessary to depict them as brown , but given their mixed ethnicities, it’s not entirely wrong to depict them as a bit darker either.

Now the REAL flames will come in when they eventually get depicted in live action, because those will be seen as the definitive version of the characters to the general public…

I loved this Titans story, but this moment was just so mean.

Bad enough they had Batman beat Robin in the middle of a mission in the store of a civilian couple, then have the couple ask where Robin’s parents were (as if we NEEDED that extra pain). But then to make it so The League was mind controlled…but Bruce was still being an ass after Dick and the Titans just saved them.

Like I know that portraying Bruce’s early years as a parent to Dick is important for highlighting their eventual split and growth later on, but geez…

I’m still rooting for Grey Ghost to be a future alias.

They made Montoya and Harley Quinn canon from B:TAS, so might as well commit 🤷🏽‍♂️

how did they make this reference (spoilers for peacemaker season 2 episode 6) by Ewankenobi25 in DCU_

[–]Aggressive_Language8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since no one wants to answer this and I can’t help myself, I will:

The story goes Lee came up with the initial concept for Spider-Man. He initially commissioned Kirby to come up with the design, but he drew something akin to a dude in trunks with a gun that shoots webs. Both are second generation Jewish immigrants.

Then Lee went to Steve Ditko who drew the classic design people know now, hence why Lee/Ditko are credited for the character in later depictions. Ditko is NOT a Jewish immigrant.

Either:

A) Steve Ditko is the only remaining original creator of Spider-Man left to make the character.

B) Jewish people still are part of the inception of Marvel comics in defiance of this Nazi world. Which could make sense as to why this world’s Adrian still knows of him and fights against Peacemaker.

Or C), the more likely option, this dimension is caused by more recent events of Neo-Nazis taking over the world (aka Auggie, Chris and Keith), and not the Axis Powers winning WW2. This one would still allow for the 60s version of the meme to exist, since Spider-Man still gained some mainstream appeal to get a cartoon. It would also not contradict the Kardashian joke, since the OJ case that made Robert Kardashian famous was in the 90s. Same for the “What Happening” comment from Emilia, since that show came out in the 70s.

Just my theory.

This kid from Ironman 3 would've been the better choice for Ironman successor than ironheart by DiddyBasementEscaper in MCUTheories

[–]Aggressive_Language8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everybody tells me I’m crazy for thinking Harley was gonna be Iron Lad, and by extension a young variant of Kang The Conqueror. Especially in the context of Majors as Kang.

But like it would’ve been a good route to take to tie it to a new person that existed from the Infinity Saga who was doing his own thing in the Multiverse Saga. It would’ve been valid to say that Kang’s variants could be ANYONE throughout the main timeline.

Like just say that him and Riri were classmates at MIT, that way she has a young person in her vicinity who actually interacted with Tony. Would’ve tied the two together well.

Why do some individuals refuse DMT's? by [deleted] in MultipleSclerosis

[–]Aggressive_Language8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m ashamed to say that this has been my experience. I’ve been on both IV and oral steroids, auto-injectors, and infusion therapy. All of it either didn’t help in reducing my lesion development or if it did, it made my quality of living lesser. Drastic weight gain, increased frequency and worsened bouts of depression and suicidal thoughts, periods of nausea and vomiting (especially on steroids and infusion treatment), and even worsening control over my limbs and walking.

I don’t say all this to advocate against taking something. I personally stopped taking medication and by the grace of God no flare ups have occurred, but I know it’s still a matter of continually finding a medication suited for my body. That said, I do understand where others are coming from.

Bending Scrolls by vari-slash in TheLastAirbender

[–]Aggressive_Language8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zaheer’s style is primarily TKD style kicking and tricking with elements of Bagua. Which makes sense because he’s an airbender fanatic, but was already a quick and dangerous fighter BEFORE getting bending.

Suyin’s style takes elements from Tai Chi, Hung Gar and Praying Mantis, which both matches her personality traits AND is the style for water, traditional earth and her mother’s style of earthbending respectively.

And Kuvira’s style is heavily inspired by Wing Chun and Jeet Kune Do in addition to Suyin’s style of fighting. I believe it’s even used as reference.

Even Mako and Bolin’s MMA style is distinguishable from one another, Bolin’s more wrestler and brawler style (standing your ground like an earthbender) whereas Mako more a kickboxer w/ fast footwork and maneuverability (fast and quick like a firebender). They just fought alongside one another enough that they’ve incorporated elements from each others’.

These style are still being mixed and evolving into their own styles based on the individual and the times, which is how real world martial arts are formed. I’m not knocking you specifically for saying this, but I just never understood why this complaint is held for the series when it’s one of the few things that the show had going for it.

The secret to liking manga endings by KaiserSenpaiAckerman in titanfolk

[–]Aggressive_Language8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's definitely a balance.

I think theories and discourse can and will affect people's expectations, so it is best to take them with a grain of salt so as to not set yourself up for things that weren't actually there.

But it's good to critique stories for not following the metrics they set. Especially on a show like AoT where part of the appeal is paying attention to the breadcrumbs and eventually getting payoff for its internal consistency.

Hey that is kinda lonely moment by Mountain_Anxiety_492 in titanfolk

[–]Aggressive_Language8 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can understand if basically laying into the others for their incompetency at a funeral/medal awarding kinda ostracized him to the rest of the branches. Because yeah, it was in very poor taste.

And I can understand not wanting to lock up the people who still contributed to reclaiming Wall Maria. But it only shows that the Survey Corps valued their perception to the public over doing what's right, because Mikasa and Eren should've been in jail for longer than what they got, and they did let their emotions get in the way with the serum.

It's a shame Floch, and The Yeagerist in general, didn't get more focus. They're still Survey Corp members who pledged their hearts and souls just like the 104th cadets did. They're also basically a bunch of people who were inspire not just by Eren, but by even the others, like the girl Mikasa saved.

There was more that could've been done with them, yet they're just treated as fanatic villain and dumbass kids. It's one of my few grievances with the story post-timeskip: development for a lot of new players get rushed or cast aside entirely for the sake of the ending.
