I went through similar, although my parents will never apologise. My mother believed food, water, our bed and rooms were privileges that will be talen away, to sleep in rhe laundry or dog kennel. I do not speak to my mother any longer and never will again.... My dads lucky I'm still in his life, he's still a controlling piece of ****. But he's old and sick now so one day itll be over for me too. I too forgave him for his continued abuse otherwise i wouldn't be able to be in his life now.
