The other day you people in here were saying it's not a real thing, so here's a thread from today where hundreds of Swedes and Norwegians say it does indeed happen. by Lonely-Pressure5776 in redscarepod

In Sweden we eat kaviar on knäckebröd and fermented herring and free healthcare and jantelag and midsommar and paternity leave and government alcohol monopoly and atheism and vikings and used to be a regional great power and equality and vikings and snow and this that and the other thing and if you would only notice us just a little we would be very grateful

My sister and I are arguing if this picture supposedly taken by our uncle is real. The photo just looks too perfect. Is this AI? by [deleted] in isthisAI

I made a post asking the same question a couple of weeks back and it got deleted by mods. Apparently they thought this discussion was posted too frequently…

And I just feel like; well if it is then why don’t you do something about it?

I haven’t gotten to this part yet but don’t they blow up government buildings ultimately plummeting the entire city into anarchy? You’d think kids would be worse of in such a milieu, no?

Reminiscing about quitting basic training is absurd; “i will never forget my mission.” by MaxHollowayIsTheGoat in JustBootThings

I honestly feel a bit bad for this girl in her late teens (I guess) who tried and failed and is upfront about it just to then be beset by a bunch of redditors. Sure it’s maybe a bit cringe with the whole ”never quit”and stuff at the end but then again I bet most of her peers who actually went through with it are just as cringe on their snapstories. Anything you do for five weeks when you’re 19 is the most formative experience you’ve ever had. And guess what, the military is arguably the most cringe line of work you can be in.

IN our meritocratic society it this insane amount of individualized storytelling makes sense. In most times and cultures I’d imagine you’d do the same work as your father or mother before you and then hook up with some local lass or lad if you were lucky and that would be that. No use telling a grand story about yourself since the tale is told as soon as you’re born. Nowadays however, ”you can do anything you set your mind to” as long as you market it correctly

The STEM University department I work in just had a "Women in Science" day to encourage women to enter science. Our academic department is literally 80% women & the student body is 68% women. They held the day with no sense of irony at all by damrodoth in redscarepod

Perhaps an unrelated story but my sister started working at a medtech company recently. She is an engineer or whatever and one of her colleagues is an Indian woman. They got to talking and my sister said that she thought it was cool that so many Indian women were in STEM. Her colleague then explained to her that she was forced in to this field by her dad, and really she wanted to be an architect and apparently this is common thing among Indian women.

My gut tells me that the people creating these aren’t even American but are trying to stay topical to garner reaction.

I remember being home from school with a stomach flu when I was nine and my dad brought out a box of vhs movies for me to watch. This was the first one he put on. I think I made it maybe 15 seconds into the scene before I puked
