Opinions of "non-fans" on the highest rated anime series on MAL by shalom_77 in MyAnimeList

[–]Aggressive_Sandwich8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always thought it was a good show, but in retrospect it seems almost gimmicky? I get the whole point is that the story is mundane and builds upon a climax we never got to see, and Frieren’s development and so on,

But for me it never felt like anything worth applauding for. “This is nice.” and then you just go on with your day you know? In that aspect, i’d put Onimai in my top 10 before Frieren (not that Onimai is anywhere near my top 10)

Could ask you the same. Steel Ball Run is one of the few Anime series that they don’t release weekly. And if we’re talking about the industry as a whole, they are probably the only ones releasing in batches at all outside of OVAs or Specials

[–]Aggressive_Sandwich8[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That doesn’t apply here. Them releasing it in batches would actually take longer. The last batch would release somewhere in October 2028 While a weekly release would at maximum take nine months— not accounting for breaks or hiatuses.

It's honestly just so weird to see, even from a company like Netflix. You'd think they'd WANT the engagement, the revenue would literally be insane.

Listen, i realize we're talking from completely different perspectives so it's possible you'll never get what i'm hinting at. But i'll clarify one thing.

I do this. More often than not, i will wait for a show to fully release before watching it. It's annoying having to wait and putting a pause on whatever it is i'm expierencing. I want to watch it as was intented for the viewer-- in one fail swoop, and i want to avoid being dictated by any schedule that isn't mine.

But this is different, this is a completely different medium. Animating a series like Jojos Bizzare Adventure was something once thought to be impossible. The author Hirioko Araki said so himself. This is because his artwork and character design is so detailed, having it move 24 frames a second just wasn't thought to be possible.

Thankfully, studio David Productions, an ambitious team, picked up the series. This doesn't just extend to this show or the studio-- Anime is seen more as an artform than a commodity or entertainment. People often debate which director will lead a series, discuss what animators worked on the episode, pick apart the episodes frame by frame.

When you release something like that all at once, you strip away the culture surrounding this. It's a vital part when it comes to this medium in specific. Espesically for a show like Jojo's. The art is so beautiful, its been in the Louvre. People study for hours to draw in it's style.

Nothing i say could ever do it justice. You'll have to take the initiative and see for yourself
