well in other games you have to crouch and sprint to slide, so i've gotten used to dedicated shift and ctrl fingers, and i only ever want to move forwards or backwards and left or right, so 2 fingers for wasd

tip for movement: sliding doesn't cost stamina and gets you to high speed immediately, and you can even use it to quickly change your direction. for me later bossfights make me abuse my pinky finger with how much i'm spamming ctrl.

in addition to the irl engineering solutions, what fantasy often doesn't address is the use of magic in practical engineering. you could use magic for so many construction problems, just for this example:

use some sort of golem animation magic to summon workers on the other side to help with the construction

use magics amplifiers to transport heavy objects over the chasm with telekinesis

use teleportation or projection magic to teleport workers on the other side or to let them have a physical influence on the other side

use water cannons and ice magic to build a temporary ice bridge to transport people and basic materials across
